Random audio engine crash оn Linux

Hello!
Random audio engine crash. Sound disappears. Only restarting the project helps.

LPGTx64 1.5.0; or LPGTx64 1.6.0 bacon4; on Linux Mint 22.3 xfce 64 bit; pipewire.

Let me see if I can reproduce it and further diagnose it here. Is there anything particularly special in your project, are you using midi or do you have a midi device selected?

Piggy is from an age way before Pipewire and can be configured to use either Pulseaudio or JACK

Does it happen without any MIDI device connected/selected? I'm assuming no since you

didn't mention it, please double-check that the MIDI output is set to null in the project settings
Does running under native JACK (not PipeWire-JACK) exhibit the same issue?
Can you check journalctl --user -f while reproducing to see if PipeWire logs errors?

In case it doesn't use JACK, this build should default to using it lgpt-deb-JACK.zip

The X64 build of Piggy uses SDL2 for audio [1], SDL supports several audio drivers on Linux including pulse, alsa, jack or pipewire directly, it would be interesting to know which you have used. I would also try exporting SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulseaudio as its probably the most common, but i'd also be interested in if it happens with alsa or pipewire as well depending on what you have on your system. I am going to add something to the log to print out which Audio driver is used.

You should see something like [AUDIO] pipewire successfully opened with 1024 samples in the log.

I had a MIDI device selected in the settings.
Now I set “null” in the project settings, and Piggy stopped suddenly dying. I'm very happy about that!
In my pipewire sound system, there is a main ALSA layer and only PulseAudio and Jack emulation layers.
Piggy connects to Pulse Audio.

A couple of questions:

1. How can I make the “null” setting launch in the project settings instead of “Midi Through 0”?
2. Is it possible to connect midi keys to Piggy and enter notes through it?

PS: lgpt-deb-JACK.zip did not start because I only have Jack as a layer in Pipewire. When starting, libjack 0 was not found.

Great finding!

1: Currently there's no way to configure the default MIDI output unfortunately but this setting is saved on an per project level so it's set once then forget fortunately =)
2: Yes it is possible to accept incoming midi, although the implementation is quite sparse at the moment.
