Updates

Update Kiln OS from Fluidd, with no computer or USB stick.

Kiln OS can update itself from Fluidd. You do not need a computer or a USB stick.

Update Kiln OS from Fluidd

  1. Open Fluidd in your web browser.
  2. Open the settings and go to the update manager (Software Updates). Look for the Kiln OS entry. It shows the version you have and the newest version available, for example "Kiln OS a -> b".
  3. Click Refresh if you do not see the newest version yet. Fluidd also checks by itself once a day.
  4. Click Update on the Kiln OS entry. Fluidd downloads the update and checks it.
  5. The printer restarts into the recovery system and installs the update. This takes about 3 minutes. Do not switch the printer off during this time.
  6. When the update is done, the printer starts Kiln OS with the new version.

Note: you cannot update while the printer is printing. Wait until the print is finished or stopped.

How often updates come

  • Kiln OS (the whole system) is released about once a week, after it has been built and tested.
  • Klipper and Moonraker (the printer's control software) can have smaller updates in between. They have their own entries in the update manager. Each one is a few megabytes and takes only a few seconds to install. The printer also restarts that program by itself.
  • Fluidd updates from its own entry in the same list.

If an update fails

  • Fluidd shows an error. Nothing on the printer is changed when the check fails.
  • If the update starts but the printer does not come back, switch it off and on again. Kiln OS starts the recovery system if the main system does not finish starting. See Troubleshooting.
  • The update log is saved on the printer at /data/ad5x/kiln-update/agent.log.
