Getting started

1. Run a scan

Open Hass-Cleaner and select New scan.

The scan inspects storage and Home Assistant registry information. It does not modify files, entities or devices.

2. Review the overview

The overview separates findings into:

• safe candidates;
• items requiring user review;
• protected items;
• estimated recoverable space.

Protected files cannot be selected.

3. Review cleanup categories

Open Scan results.

Each cleanup category shows:

• the number of files;
• estimated size;
• producer or related integration;
• safety checks;
• examples and advice;
• possible consequences;
• recovery guidance.

Expand Producers, examples and advice before selecting a category.

4. Prepare cleanup

Select only items you understand and choose Prepare cleanup.

This creates a review step. It does not immediately change anything.

5. Choose a backup option

Before execution, Hass-Cleaner offers three choices:

• use a Supervisor-verified backup;
• confirm a recent backup you checked yourself;
• consciously continue without a backup.

A verified full backup is strongly recommended.

6. Confirm the operation

Review the complete selection and enter the requested confirmation text.

The entire batch is revalidated before the first file is moved.

7. Check quarantine

Files are moved to quarantine first. They are not immediately deleted.

Open Quarantine to:

• run a restore test;
• restore a file;
• inspect its checksum and retention period;
• permanently remove it after retention expires.

Recommended first test

1. Create a full Home Assistant backup.
2. Run a new scan.
3. Select one old log or clearly rebuildable cache file.
4. Move it to quarantine.
5. Confirm that Home Assistant still works normally.
6. Run the restore test.
7. Restore the file.
