🎮 Director Control

Manage your live show from the Director Control Panel — guest queue, audio/video controls, and multi-platform simulcast.

Overview

The Director Control Panel is your command center during a live broadcast. From here you control who's on screen, manage the guest queue, adjust audio, and push your stream to multiple platforms simultaneously.

Access it at: /director-control (requires login with host or admin role)

🎛️ Guest Queue Management

The guest queue is the core of the Director experience — it controls which guests appear in the composed broadcast view.

Queue Operations

Action Description
Add to Queue Invite a guest to the waiting queue
Bring On Air Move a guest from the queue to the live composed view
Remove from Air Take a guest off the composed view (back to queue)
Kick Remove a guest entirely from the room
Reorder Drag to rearrange the guest queue order
Priority Boost Move a guest to the front of the queue

Approved Guest ──▶ In Queue ──▶ On Air ──▶ Off Air (back to queue)

Audio Controls per Guest

Control Function
Mute/Unmute Silence or enable a guest's microphone
Volume Slider Adjust individual guest audio level
Solo Isolate a single guest (mute all others)
Audio Monitor Listen to a guest without them being on air

Video Controls per Guest

Control Function
Show/Hide Video Toggle guest video in the composed view
Pin Pin a guest as the primary video source
Picture-in-Picture Show guest in PiP overlay over the host feed
Full Screen Guest Switch composed view to full-screen guest

Overlays

Lower Third Guest name and title bar at bottom of screen
Show Bug/Logo Persistent watermark/logo in corner
Live Indicator Red "LIVE" badge
Timer Countdown or elapsed time overlay
Scoreboard Customizable score display (sports module)

📡 Multi-Platform Simulcast

Push your stream to YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok simultaneously — all managed from the Director panel.

Simulcast Controls

Control Function
Platform Toggle Enable/disable each platform independently
Stream Key Set per-platform RTMP stream key
Stream Health Real-time bitrate and connection status per platform
Auto-Reconnect Automatically reconnects dropped streams
Start All / Stop All Bulk control for all platforms

Platform Status Indicators

Status Meaning
🟢 Live Stream is live and healthy
🟡 Connecting Attempting to establish connection
🔴 Disconnected Stream dropped or failed to connect
⚪ Disabled Platform is toggled off

Setting Up Simulcast

  1. Get your stream key from each platform:
    • YouTube: YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live → Stream Key
    • Facebook: Facebook Live Producer → Stream Key
    • TikTok: TikTok Live Center → Stream Key
  2. Enter the keys in the Director Control panel or .env file
  3. Toggle each platform on
  4. Click "Start All" to begin simulcast

🎤 Host Controls

Host Audio/Video

Control Function
Host Mute Mute your own microphone
Host Video Off Turn off your camera (audio-only mode)
Push-to-Talk Hold a key to unmute temporarily
Audio Ducking Automatically lower guest volume when host speaks

Scene Management

Control Function
BRB Screen Switch to "Be Right Back" holding screen
Intermission Play intermission/ads screen
Countdown Display a countdown timer for show start
Emergency Cut Immediately cut to a safe screen

📊 Stream Monitoring

The Director panel provides real-time stream health data:

Metric Description
Bitrate (Host) Current upload bitrate from the host
Bitrate (Guest) Per-guest upload bitrate
Packet Loss Data loss percentage per participant
Frame Rate Current FPS being sent
Latency Round-trip time to the LiveKit server
Viewer Count Number of viewers on the Broadcast Page
Simulcast Health Per-platform connection quality

Stream Health Colors

Color Meaning
🟢 Green Healthy — all metrics within range
🟡 Yellow Warning — minor issues, stream still watchable
🔴 Red Critical — significant packet loss, low bitrate

💬 Live Chat Management

If interactive chat is enabled, the Director panel includes chat controls:

Chat Feed View all viewer messages in real time
Delete Message Remove inappropriate messages
Ban User Block a user from chat
Slow Mode Limit how often users can send messages
Chat Overlay Optionally display chat as a browser source overlay
