Overview
Matcha Linux is a lightweight, fast and modern desktop operating system built on Alpine Linux with customized green-ish looks and hand-picked core packages for smooth usage.
What's new
- Much better VM support - A separate image for VMs is now available!
- Now on Alpine 3.24 - Upgraded the Alpine Linux base from version 3.23 to 3.24
- Better GPU acceleration - Built images now include mesa drivers
Requirements
- Memory: 4GB RAM (live installation environment uses ~3.5GB, installed system idles ~1.5GB)
- Storage: 10GB free disk space for installation
- UEFI Firmware: Required, legacy BIOS not supported
Build Requirements
- act - To run GitHub Actions workflows locally
- Docker - Containerized build environment required for
act
Build Instructions
git clone https://github.com/domasles/matcha-linux.git
cd matcha-linux
act workflow_dispatchThe resulting ISO files are placed in the build/ directory after the workflow completes.
Known Limitations
- Poor app variety due to small Alpine ecosystem. Distrobox is highly recommended to run software within Matcha Linux
- Some features may not work as expected in early releases, expect bugs
- Although modern and secure, Matcha Linux requires UEFI firmware
