This page is mainly for the people doing the collections.

You will need

  • A smartphone (Apple or Android)
  • An internet connection (data)
  • A Google account with a @gmail.com email address (create a free account)
  • The Google Maps app (to view collection addresses from the app)
  • Your organisation's domain-specific settings

Setup process

1. Request access

  1. Locate the APPS SCRIPT PROJECT EDITORS list in your organisation's internal documentation
  2. Email the app owner/developer, requesting access to the STABLE APP and providing your @gmail.com email address
  3. The app owner/developer will add you to the SPREADSHEET as an Editor
  4. The app owner/developer will add you to the associated APPS SCRIPT PROJECT as an Editor

Note: The app previously read/wrote data from/to a TEST SPREADSHEET - this is no longer the case.

2. Open the app for the first time

A. Give the app access to the spreadsheet

  1. On your smartphone, open your usual web browser and load the STABLE APP
  2. Sign in with your Google Account
  3. Click Review Permissions, to allow APP NAME (Unverified) to access your data on Google
  4. Choose your email account to continue to APP NAME
  5. Click Continue, as Google hasn’t verified this app - because it is still under development
  6. Click Allow for APP NAME wants to access your Google Account

B. Run the app full-screen

Running the app full-screen allows you to see more collections before you need to scroll.

  1. Apple (Safari): Tap Share icon > Add to Home Screen. If this menu option doesn’t appear, you may need to click the Safari icon in the bottom right hand corner of the screen to open Safari-proper.
  2. Android (Chrome): Tap 3 vertical dots icon > Add to Home screen
  3. Locate the shortcut on your home screen and tap it
  4. Sign in with your Google Account
  5. Close the web browser
  6. Locate the shortcut on your home screen and tap it again
  7. The app will now be full-screen

3. Familiarise yourself with the app

1. Select one or more runs

Select “Run A”, and optionally “Run B”

2. Select run extras

If you will be collecting the hire bike, tick the checkbox with the EXTRA COLLECTIONS LABEL.

This adds extra ‘pick-up’ and ‘drop-off’ tasks before and after the selected run(s).

3. Load runs

Click Go to load the selected run(s)

4. Enter collections

  1. A list of addresses (collections) will appear after a few seconds
View a collection address
  1. Click an address to open it in your Google Maps app
See how many buckets/tubs are required
  1. The container icon will show the type of compost container and how many, e.g. 1 bucket
See important information about this collection
  1. The text below the address will show the status of the collection, e.g. ‘TODO’, ‘DONE’, ‘ON HOLD’, ‘CANCELLED’ etc
  2. An icon with a circle around it provides the same information.
View collection notes and enter the collected amount
  1. Click the icon with the circle around it (? or !) to reveal the collection notes and compost volume drop-down.
  2. The icon will change to a pencil to indicate that you are in edit mode.
  3. Note: A yellow background may indicate something of importance, but for now it’s better to pay attention to the notes.
  4. Read the notes, click a phone number to open it in your phone call app.
  5. If you have something to add to the notes, click the Edit checkbox to the right, make the changes, then click the Edit checkbox again to save your changes.
  6. Change the selected option in the drop-down to match the amount of compost you’ve collected
  7. The icon will change to a tick to indicate that the collection is complete, the notes and volume drop-down will disappear, and the compost volume amount will appear below the address
  8. Click the tick icon again if you need to change to a different option
  9. Continue on to the next collection

5. Questions?
