Version 5 β€” User Guide & Support

What is ColorFan?

ColorFan is a colour reference tool for iPhone. It lets you browse curated colour collections, sample colours from your own photos, mix custom colours with RGB sliders, and save your favourites for later.

Colour Collections

The home screen shows ten colour fans. Tap any one to open it.

  • Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Grey β€” systematic fans that step through the full range of each colour family.
  • Random β€” ten groups of five related colours, freshly generated each time. Tap the β†Ί button in the top-right corner to generate a new set.
  • Favorites β€” up to seven colours you have saved yourself.
  • HTML/CSS β€” all 141 standard CSS named colours.
  • RAL Colors β€” the classic RAL colour matching system.

Colour Detail

Tap any colour in a fan to open its detail page. Here you will see:

  • The RGB values and hex code for the selected colour.
  • Five related colours: the opposite, two channel-shifted variants, and a darker and lighter version. Tap any of them to drill deeper.
  • ⧉ Copy β€” tap the copy icon in the toolbar to copy the hex code to the clipboard.
  • β€’ Full screen β€” fills the screen with the colour, useful for colour-matching in the real world.
  • ≑ Mixer β€” the slider icon on the right of each row opens the mixer for that colour.

Colour Mixer

The mixer shows a before/after comparison at the top and three RGB sliders below. Drag any slider to adjust the red, green, or blue component. The background updates live.

  • Explore β€” opens the detail page for the mixed colour.
  • Save β€” saves the mixed colour to one of your seven favourite slots.

Sampling Colours from Photos

Tap the πŸ“· camera icon on the home screen to open the colour sampler. Choose a photo from your library or take one with the camera.

Once a photo is loaded, use the two modes at the bottom of the screen:

  • Zoom β€” pinch to zoom in, drag to pan, double-tap to reset. Use this to get close to the area you want to sample.
  • Pick β€” press and drag your finger across the image. A magnifying loupe shows a zoomed preview of the area under your finger. Lift your finger to sample the colour at that spot and open its detail page.

Favourites

ColorFan has seven favourite slots. To save a colour, tap the mixer icon ≑ on any colour row, then tap Save. Choose the slot you want to overwrite by tapping Save here next to it. Your favourites are stored on your device and persist between sessions.

Privacy

ColorFan does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Photos are accessed only on your device and are never uploaded anywhere. Camera and photo library access is used solely for the colour sampling feature.
