Seeking contributors

I’m thinking of running a small Skylos OSS challenge.

Prize pool: USD $300
3 winners × $100 each
The idea is simple: show me what you wish Skylos had that will make you use it.

It can be:

• a new detector/rule
• better framework support
• a workflow improvement
• uiux and docs improvements
• improving trust

I'm not expecting full production features. I mostly want to see what contributors would actually want to use, and what would make Skylos more useful in real projects.

Submit a PR during the challenge window. I’ll pick the top 3 accepted contributions based on usefulness, clarity, code quality, and fit with Skylos.

Paid via PayPal after winners are announced.

Hi @duriantaco - I may be interested in contributing, but I want to confirm the challenge is live before preparing a PR.

Could you please clarify:

1. Is the challenge currently open, and what are the submission start and deadline dates?
2. Are external contributors eligible, with three selected winners each receiving USD $100 via PayPal?
3. Should contributors propose and receive scope confirmation before coding to avoid duplicate work, and are there any minimum acceptance criteria beyond usefulness, clarity, code quality, and fit?
4. Are contributions made with disclosed AI assistance eligible under the repository's CONTRIBUTING.md policy?
5. If available, could you link to a prior external-recipient payout or public winner record for this or another Skylos contribution program?

I will wait for confirmation before starting or opening a PR.

Hi! Thanks for checking and sorry for the ambiguity. The previous challenge is no longer active. There is no current submission window or deadline, and the former offer of three USD $100 PayPal awards no longer applies. Participation was too sporadic for a fixed challenge format, so we have retired it. External contributions are still welcome.

We may instead approve smaller rolling rewards for improvements grounded in first hand Skylos use. Before coding, please propose:

1. The real Skylos problem or workflow you encountered
2. Why the improvement would be useful
3. A reproduction or supporting evidence
4. The proposed scope and validation approach

Our main criteria is that the contributor should be users. We will then confirm in writing whether the proposal is reward eligible, the exact reward USD $20 to $50 via PayPal and its acceptance criteria. Payment would follow acceptance and merge of the agreed work. Unapproved or unsolicited PRs remain welcome, but are not auto reward eligible.

AI-assisted contributions are allowed under CONTRIBUTING.md (https://github.com/duriantaco/skylos/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md), provided material ai use is disclosed and the contributor understands, can explain what is being written.

We do not currently have a public payout or winner record to share. I would rather be transparent about that than imply otherwise. Thanks again for checking first. Please send a proposal before beginning implementation.
