Any plans for a Codex App Server backend?

Is there any intent to migrate the Codex backend from codex exec --json to Codex App Server, perhaps as another SessionBackend implementation?

Thanks for bringing this up. We looked into Codex App Server, and it does look like a good fit for richer integrations. At the moment, however, codex exec --json is not causing a concrete problem for us, so we do not have an immediate migration plan.

Which App Server capability would solve a specific problem for your use case: interactive approvals, turn steering, richer streaming events, persistent thread management, or something else? If the current backend is blocking you, a concrete example would help us evaluate an additional SessionBackend implementation.
