r2modmanPlus Legacy for win7

which version of r2modmanPlus works for win7 ?
some of the function requests are calling on functions not labeled the same or non existent (but mostly the former not the latter), and thus do not work on windows7. Sometimes these things can just be a matter of not calling to the EX version of a function.

As Atlyss itself works on windows 7, with mods, and online with others, it seems fair to ask that the mod manager have a windows7 branch too. Right now all mods are installed manually on win7 which is a difficult process to keep all updated on it.

You can check the package.json commit history for electron changes and work out which releases by date. I don’t know which off the top of my head.

This isn’t true. Windows 7 ended support in 2020, with extended updates ending in 2023. You’re asking to support a dead platform.

For us to continue using modern technologies, we need to move on too.

You should consider upgrading. You’ve been on a fully dead system for over 3 years. Not only that but you’re doing things like modding which are putting your system at a much higher risk regardless.

Nothing wrong with using modern technologies. But is it so wrong to make NES games that run on the NES? Yes? Well there are hundreds, and new ones being made for it put literally onto cartridges every day.

honestly though, where else to ask for back-compatible versions of r2modmanPlus then, at r2modmanPlus? Atlyss was made to run with a min requirement of win7. Valid working operating systems the game -wasn't- even made to run on natively have r2modmanPlus support. The mod manager has a min requirement of win10. when the game was made to run on win7 and still does quite fine. I say it still seems fair to ask that the mod manager have a windows7 branch too. Not even much work, as most the functions have the same names, just without the EX on the ends.

Steam doesn’t even support Windows 7 anymore. Support was dropped in 2024. You can work around it, but it’s as expected, it’s a workaround and not official support.

This is Electron doing these calls, not r2modman.
There is no Windows native calls that we’re making on our own source code. So no, we can’t use modern technologies and continue to support Windows 7, because it’s the new technologies themselves which no longer support it.

The overall answer is no, we cannot support Windows 7. But here are some reasons:

• Downgrading Electron would mean a miserable experience for Linux users on Wayland
• Maintaining a separate branch is needless work
• We’re starting to use newer CSS techniques which are only available in newer versions of Chrome. This relies on a newer Electron version

You’re welcome to maintain your own fork where you downgrade Electron.
