Welcome to the Fuel Cost wiki! Here you will find information on how to use the tool and details on the calculations.

New version online.

  • Return flights are now included in the cost estimation per grouping. That is the cost impact of a flight from LGAV to EDDF and back, EDDF to LGAV will be included in the cost basis of Greece and Germany.
  • Added Member State to Member State grouping option. Can be used to analyse the traffic between states.
  • Applicability of each legislative proposal is now done automatically through the country settings. Can be seen but not edited in the relevant tap
  • Can add comma delimited ad-hoc ICAO Country codes to the analysis for comparison purposes in the relevant fields, eg OJ,HE,GM,LT (Jordan, Egypt, Morocco and Turkey) for comparison purposes and analyse potential carbon leakage and competitiveness. See below photo newplot (1)
  • Added custom criteria updates to analyse various potential policy options. eg exempting island MS from SAF Criteria: (ADEP_COUNTRY=="Cyprus" | ADEP_COUNTRY=="Malta" | ADEP_COUNTRY=="Ireland") Update field:SAF_COST Value: 0.0 image or exclude from ETS flights from/to Cyprus and Greece Criteria:(ADEP_COUNTRY=="Cyprus" & ADES_COUNTRY=="Greece") | (ADEP_COUNTRY=="Greece" & ADES_COUNTRY=="Cyprus") Update field:ETS_COST Value: 0.0

Latest Changes

Revised GDP Calculation method to

  • Estimate future GDP based on the inserted growth rate. Baseline GDP is 2020 for all Countries extrapolated thereafter. Added grouping options to analyze effect on airports and air operators
  • Return leg can now be excluded from the GDP calculations
  • Display heatmap of connections between airports and country pairs depending on grouping option
  • Added Flight growth option, which applies the specified growth rate for every year after 2024.

Burden on GDP

  1. Fist calculate all costs(ETD, SAF, ETS) for each flight departing the MS concerned and sum it up.
  2. Double the cost in order to take into account both legs of the journey --> Sum(all costs). Extrapolation of return leg can now be turned off.
  3. Extrapolate the 2020 GDP as taken from World Bank using compound growth formula and inputs the Projection Year and GDP Growth --> Projected GDP in year XXXX
  4. Determine burden as a percentage = Sum(all costs)/Projected GDP in year XXXX per Country
