I've not noticed any recent issues with Elfeed (I use Emacs 31 and usually the most recent development version of many packages). In order to investigate further information is needed (Emacs version, Elfeed version, specific configuration, ...). |

@Thaodan Yes, of course the problem is exacerbated by a large index. However I've also noticed index buffers popping up from time to time in my Emacs, and this should really not be the case. The new loading function uses the proper technique to load Lisp data in Emacs. And if it is faster, that's a nice win too, in addition to the code simplification. |

@minad It does look a lot simpler., less noise. Good read. Would it make sense set the mode of the index file to lisp data mode when opened, i.e. by adding it to the file local variables into the first line of the file? |

@Thaodan Yes, makes sense. (EDIT: I tried it and I would refrain from adding it, since it makes the behavior worse when opening the file manually. fundamental-mode is simply much faster for such large files with long lines.) |

@minad. What if you just make your own mode derived from special-mode? Would that be fast? |
Ah I thought lisp data mode was supposed to be just that. It could be that I opened the index in vlf-mode where it wasn't as laggy then. |

When I load elfeed for the first time after starting emacs, I’m stuck for more than 5 minutes with a message "Database not loaded" and emacs almost completely locked up. After I wait all is well.
This started a couple days ago, probably after I updated some packages (but not elfeed, which I have not updated for a couple weeks). I suspect it is an interaction with another package, but I do not know how to debug it. How can I find out what emacs is doing while loading the database?
