Upgrading from 3.8.2

EMS-ESP versions 3.8,4 and the newer developer build 3.9.0 have been released this month. Due to the changes in the firmware structure, automatic upgrades via the EMS-ESP WebUI may cause issues. Below is a guide to upgrading. Our plan is for everyone to eventually get on the mainstream version, which our development branch leads, so we can continue to innovate as espressif (the ESP microcontroller) continues to roll out new core libraries and hardware variants.

First things first

Make an export/backup of your settings from the WebUI.

Software ESP32-4MB, ESP32-16MB (without PSRAM):

Update from version 3.8.2 to all versions fails, also affected v3.8.2-dev23, v3.8.3-dev0, v3.8.3-dev1, v3.8.3-dev2)
Solution 1: enable settings/application/developer-options, in version page install the stored version, then update to the desired version

Software ESP32-16MB+, ESP32S3-16MB+ (with PSRAM)

Direct update from versions 3.8.2, 3.8.3, 3.8.3-dev.x to any v3.9.x and newer fails
Solution1: Download new software and update via drag-and-drop field
Solution 2: Update to 3.8.4, then update to 3.9.x

Finally

• Find ems-esp on your network. If you're on an ESP32 (not S2/S3/C3) and using Ethernet it will have a new MAC address. As mDNS is enabled by default you can locate the IP address by going to ems-esp.local.
• Import the system settings JSON file you just created.
