Fedora Install Script: the current quickshell-git version can't be installed on due to incompatible qt versions

Step 3. Describe the issue

The current quickshell-git version based on the shortcommit db1777c can't be installed on fedora 43 because the rpm package provided by the copr needs qt6.9 and fedora 43 ships with 6.10 minimum and dnf can't resolve this.

And downgrading to 6.9 would be bad too because 6.10 is needed for the configs anyways. Maybe a small hint to users should be provided.

I hope it's ok to skip diagnosis and logs for this issue because they aren't really usefull, especially quickshell logs as they could never be created in the first place

I do not use Fedora so I can not help you.
Actually if we solve #1061 then you can just use dist-nix for any distros, including Fedora.
You may want to have a taste of it by trying #2382.

nice someone ported the fedora fork here, didnt know.
no idea tbh, i didnt wanna deal with this and just use the latest quickshell-git in my script without a version lock. that stuff is tricky on fedora

Possible choices:

1. Not pin commit of Quickshell. However illogical-impulse is developed on the pinned commit of Quickshell, so this may results in missing functionalities or unexpected behaviors.
2. Install Qt 6.10 on Fedora.
   • If we use custom Spec file for this and substitute Qt 6.9 provided by Fedora package repo, it maybe break other software relying on Qt 6.9.
   • However maybe it's possible to make Qt 6.10 exists together with 6.9 and specify Quickshell to use Qt 6.10.
   • Or maybe we can use some virtual environment like miniforge...
3. Do nothing, just wait for Fedora providing Qt 6.10. Not sure when will it be though.

Extra choice:

• Solve Use guix (or nix) to repack almost everything #1061 to use dist-nix instead.

Oh sorry I may have confused the versions somewhere down the line.
Qt6.10 comes with fedora 43 and downgrading is not easy (or maybe even possible I didn't try it).
The current pinned quickshell-git version requires qt6.9 to be installed (because the rpm file was build with it and uploaded to the copr). So maybe it would be 3. but wait for the pinned version of quickshell to be moved I guess.

Or the better yet, your extra choice: wait for the dist-nix stuff to be finished which could solve all problems

Sorry I misunderstood. On Arch Linux it's built against Qt6.10 though, and some functionalities of illogical-impulse also relies on Qt6.10.

Okay, I will resolve this issue later. In the meantime, you can temporarily install the latest version of quickshell-git, it should work.
