The drivers you use either with a pre-made image or yourself can make all the difference between having a bootable machine or one that crashes at startup.

Apple

Apple drivers are very compatible but early versions of the Apple SC HD Setup require a patch and do a "low level" format that can take hours on a large drive. You can instead grab one of our pre-formatted blanks from the Usage page.

Using Drive Setup on OS 7.1+ is recommended for 030 machines and above.

NOTE: Drive Setup drivers will not work on a Mac Plus - use Apple SC HD Setup.

LIDO

LIDO is not recommended as it affects performance, and is incompatible with the Macintosh Plus.

A very common 3rd party formatting utility compatible with most Macintoshes.

Lacie

Does work but does not seem to change any performance or compatibility over LIDO.

FWB Toolkit

Currently incompatible.
