Programmable automated focus racks

Goal

Let operators program and run repeatable automated focus racks between saved focus points.

Why it matters

A controlled A-to-B focus move is difficult to repeat by hand, especially for solo operators. Automation can make rehearsed cinematic moves consistent while keeping the camera rig untouched.

Proposed experience

• Capture two or more focus marks from the live image
• Set duration, direction, delay, and easing for each move
• Rehearse a rack without recording, then trigger it during a take
• Pause or abort immediately from the monitor
• Save reusable programs only when lens-position behavior is repeatable

Success looks like

A user can mark two subjects, preview the transition, and repeat the same smooth focus rack across multiple takes.

Open questions

• How should the app detect lenses with non-repeatable focus-by-wire behavior?
• Should programs support more than two marks in the first version?
• What safety behavior is required if tracking AF or another focus mode becomes active?
