Dual-firmware

A boot manager + custom bootloader let you keep two firmwares and switch at power-on:

• power on -> boot manager (ota_2) -> app0 / app1
• switch without re-flashing
• even if one firmware bricks, the boot manager always runs
• flash either slot from a file or over WiFi

How: the custom bootloader always boots the boot manager slot unless it's a one-shot boot. The boot manager starts a firmware as one-shot (ESP_OTA_IMG_NEW); once it confirms, the next boot returns to the boot manager.

Hardware: ESP32-S3 N16R8 (16MB flash + 8MB OPI PSRAM) only. Other variants untested.
It is impossible to know what kind of errors might arise in this project.

Interesting, I’m working on something similar! A Port from M5 Launcher for ATS Mini, is already working with firmware installations via OTA, and a catalog with 4 firmwares compatible with ATS Mini!

I don’t know much about M5Launcher, but this looks really impressive! I’ll definitely have to give it a try sometime.
