The error is coming from

arduino-esp32/CMakeLists.txt

Lines 218 to 219 in 3ec5f4e

, and should be reported in arduino-esp32 repository. Instead of failing at configuration time, the code there should use fail_at_build_time function. cc @me-no-dev

When using arduino as a component, it is recommended that you start from the sdkconfig included in the repo and make your changes. There are a number of configuration settings that are critical to arduino working properly.
