Text input not allowing non-breaking space

Hello,

It seems that etherpad lite's content edit area does not allow for non-breaking spaces.

Instead, any non-breaking space inserted seems to automatically be converted into a normal (breaking) space.

This behaviour breaks typographic rules in French and probably other languages too. Also, I don't see any convicing reason for automatically converting non-breaking spaces into breaking spaces.

(Litewrite had the same problem, so this might help: litewrite/litewrite#199 )

This looks like an issue with contenteditable, as suggested on Litewrite issue.

Which browser are you using? Chrome has an open issue for that, for example.

As far as I can tell, I have the same issue on Firefox 48.0 and Chromium 52.

Still open as an upstream bug it appears. Can the bug still be replicated in Etherpad?

I used shift space to create what should be a nbsp between 100 and km but as you can see it ends up being a line break.

Ideally we'd have test coverage for this (possibly workable in contentCollector.js?) but I don't really know enough to fix this especially if there is still an open upstream bug in Chromium

This is a lot more tricky than I initially considered.. More work is required :)
