Etsy has denied my API access because of my starlight.ai website domain? #1554

I feel your pain. Etsy encourages users to test apps in production, it has no test environment. We tried that. They permanently banned 7 shops we made for testing, one after another. We couldn't even normally test the use cases, would get banned instantly. The shops were not violating any policies from Etsy. Etsy support was not helpful as well. One of the accounts had money deposited to it's credit balance, which we couldn't take out after getting banned. We had to contact the bank to get the money back. We also had numerous encounters where Etsy would release breaking changes and our app would stop working. They don't have a newsletter for API changes, all breaking changes are announced in Github announcements tab. We don't use Github. I have to subscribe to all notifications for this repository so I wouldn't miss any changes, my email is flooded. I know I could add a filter for "breaking" announcements. But at this point I don't trust Etsy enough. Would rather sift through the flood than miss a breaking change again. |

Hi, Thank you. |

Look at this thread: #1607 I want API access so I am trying to consolidate all of our concerns to one location. |
Uh oh!

I have been a software engineer for fifteen years, mostly research and backend, and have used many platform APIs that require registering a small app on a specific domain. I have not previously had trouble getting an app approved on other platforms.
Our application: the WorkshopsTheFuture shop. We manufacture small toys, office supplies, and microelectronics in the United States, and we periodically update product descriptions. We would like to do that automatically, and to run workshop servers that notify us when we have not replied to an Etsy customer within 24 hours (or when a customer has not replied to us within 72 hours).
Submitted details:
The first two submissions each took more than two months to receive a denial, with no further information, and emails to support@ and developer@ went unanswered. We would like to understand what about the application was not acceptable so we can correct it and move forward.
We have since submitted a third application with the details above. Any guidance on the review process, or a contact who can review the denial rationale, would be appreciated. We have emailed the support and developer teams no less than three times in each instance.

The submissions are very much valid through and through.
