There is a problem with the author field, when adding a new book to the system.

As you can see, I have an author with the name "Hans Uwe Petersen"

But when I go to new book an start typing the authors name:

it is not found. If I keep on typing the name it proposes another authors name:

If I hit Enter the wrong author is added to my post:

If a keep on typing the name of the author I want to add to the post, it still is not found:

But by hitting Enter the author is added as the second author:

Then I can delete the wrong author.

The really anoying thing is, that the problem recurcs, when creating the next book.

I have the impression, that the system onlys looks a subset of the author names and not all names.

Thanks for reporting this! I identified the root cause.

The author autocomplete in the book form loads authors into the dropdown using a client-side search library (Choices.js + Fuse.js). However, the backend query that feeds the initial load had a LIMIT 200 — meaning only the first 200 authors (alphabetically) were available for searching. Any author beyond that limit would never appear in the autocomplete, no matter what you typed.

Can you confirm: do you have more than 200 authors in your system? That would explain why "Hans Uwe Petersen" (starting with "H") wasn't found — authors starting with A–G likely filled the 200 slots before reaching "H".

The fix (removing the limit so all authors are loaded) is already in the current development branch and will be included in the next release.

I can confirm, that I have more than 200 authors in my collection. At the moment can see, I have 2.254 authors. for my 2.555 "books".

This issue has been fixed in v0.4.9 (commit 4b148f5).

Root cause: The author autocomplete in the book form loaded authors with a LIMIT 200 query, so only the first 200 authors (alphabetically) were available. With 2,254 authors, many names — especially those starting with later letters like "H" — were never loaded into the dropdown.

What changed:

1. Removed the 200-author limit on the initial Choices.js load — all authors are now available from the start
2. Added server-side search on every keystroke — as you type, a live API call (/api/search/autori?q=...) fetches matching authors from the full database, so even if the initial list were somehow incomplete, typing will always find the right author
3. Multi-word AND search — searching "Uwe Petersen" now matches "Hans Uwe Petersen" because each word is matched independently with AND logic

@HansUwe52 You can update to v0.4.9 from Admin → Settings → Updates. After updating, the author field should work correctly regardless of how many authors you have in your collection.
