Analysis

Root Cause

The error originates from the useCaretNearBottom hook in apps/desktop/src/session/components/caret-position-context.tsx (lines 68-80).

The checkCaretPosition function accesses view.coordsAtPos(from) (line 75) without first verifying that the editor's ProseMirror view is fully mounted and available:

This function is called immediately during the useEffect mount (line 90: checkCaretPosition()), and also registered as an event handler. During React's commitHookEffectListMount phase, the TipTap editor instance may exist (passing the !editor check) and may even report isFocused as true, but the underlying ProseMirror EditorView may not yet be attached to the DOM — causing coordsAtPos to fail.

This is consistent with the stack trace showing the error during commitPassiveMountOnFiber (React useEffect mount).

Introduced In

This code was introduced in commit 0e5114acf — "Hide FABs when typing near bottom (#2564)", which added the entire caret-position-context.tsx file and the caret-near-bottom detection logic.

Suggested Fix

Add a guard for the editor view availability before calling coordsAtPos. The simplest approach:
