💬 Inky Message plugin - Rich text messages with timestamps and customizable message bubbles

[saulob]

Hi everyone, I made another 3rd-party plugin for InkyPi called Inky Message

The idea was inspired by this discussion from @Og190875

#731

The original idea was simple and useful: type a message in the InkyPi web interface and display it on the screen for someone at home

I liked the idea a lot and decided to turn it into a full plugin with some extra formatting options while keeping it simple to use

It supports:

• Rich text editing
• Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large font sizes
• Bold, italic and underline
• Left, center, right and justified text alignment
• Optional timestamp
• Optional message bubble style
• Customizable bubble color
• Dynamic bubble height based on message content
• Plain message mode
• Horizontal and vertical layouts
• No external APIs required

Hello, @saulob
Enjoy my idea is implemented.
I have been working on my side with IA Claude to create my own plugin, and finally I don't use my vpn.
Like I have my own web domain, I have created a web page where I can enter the text (more simple like you, no italic, bold...) the web site create a JSON file (with a token), and the app on inky pi check every 10 minutes the json.
If new message, the InkyPi display it during a time selected on the web page. The InkyPi automatically calculates the font size. After that, I adapted the weather page for my home with the Meteo-France API and customised displays on the InkyPi

I have add also a logtext file for the weather; I can see the oldest weather forecast.

Nice to see that you built your own solution too, AI helps a lot with this kind of project, congrats 🚀

Your approach is interesting, especially the JSON polling and automatic font sizing

Mine ended up going in a different direction, focused on keeping everything inside the InkyPi web interface with rich text formatting and message bubbles

It is great that the original idea resulted in two different implementations
