How to Install Ranked & Multiplayer Maps

Felipe Braz edited this page Sep 27, 2026 · 3 revisions

In GeneralsX, online multiplayer through GeneralsOnline (NGMP) and QuickMatch primarily uses community-standard competitive and ranked maps rather than unpatched vanilla maps.

This guide explains how QuickMatch map pools work, where to download the ranked map packs, and where to install them on macOS, Linux, and Windows.

🎯 How QuickMatch Map Selection Works

  • Server-Driven Playlists: The map pool for each matchmaking queue (e.g. 1v1 Random Armies, 6-8P FFA) is defined dynamically by the game server.
  • Automatic Detection: When you open the QuickMatch menu, the client cross-references the server's playlist with your local map folder. Any playlist map that you have installed will appear in the Allowed Maps (Mapas Permitidos) listbox.
  • Missing Maps: If you do not have a specific map installed, it simply won't appear in your list. You can still queue with the remaining maps, but installing the full map pack ensures maximum match finding compatibility.

📥 Where to Download the Maps

1. GeneralsX QuickMatch Official Map Pack (Recommended)

Pre-packaged lightweight archive containing all 22 currently active QuickMatch maps (16 1v1 maps and 6 FFA maps):

2. GenTool Ranked Map Pack (Full Collection)

GenTool hosts the comprehensive, official ranked map collection containing over 290 community-balanced tournament maps (including almost all [RANK] maps):

3. GameReplays / Community Tournaments

Certain tournament maps created for recent World Series (WS) events (such as Forest of Camelot ZH v4, Mirmulnir v4, Terraform v2, Beijing Uprise v4) are also individually available on:

📂 Where to Place the Map Files

Extract the downloaded ZIP archives into your user data Maps folder.

Windows Generals %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data\Maps\

Tip

If the Maps directory does not exist yet inside your user data directory, simply create it.

🗂️ Folder Structure Requirement

Command & Conquer engines require that each map is located in a subfolder whose name matches the .map file exactly:

Maps/
├── [RANK] TD NoBugsCars ZH v1/
│ ├── [RANK] TD NoBugsCars ZH v1.map
│ └── [RANK] TD NoBugsCars ZH v1.tga
├── [RANK] Natural Threats ZH v4/
│ ├── [RANK] Natural Threats ZH v4.map
│ └── [RANK] Natural Threats ZH v4.tga
└── Koujou Okawa v3/
    ├── Koujou Okawa v3.map
    └── Koujou Okawa v3.tga

Note

The GenTool map archives already have this folder structure preserved inside the ZIP. You can extract the contents directly into your Maps/ folder.
