Can we have the ability to turn off git integration entirely? Files freezes entirely when viewing a complex git repository. (Unreal Engine Repo)

Description

Chiming in here as a person who loves files but is unable to use it in specific folders using git repositories of the unreal engine which freeze instantly when viewing in files. Can we get a checkbox to completely disable the git integration? I'd personally rather have it off instead of it processing the repository when I am just sifting through it on files. I have other things like git-fork that are aimed entirely at git repo management.

Freezes on this folder.

Steps To Reproduce

1. Sign up as a developer for unreal engine on github
2. Clone a git repository using UE5-Main https://github.com/EpicGames/UnrealEngine/tree/ue5-main
3. Open that repository's folder location with files
4. It will hang for a long time or forever (Haven't sat through more than 5 min to see if it doesn't crash eventually)

Requirements

Add Option to disable git integration entirely so that it's not blocking while a fix is looked into. (I see a pull request for moving it to another thread is in the works)

@chriszuko we're actively working on a PR that addresses the performance issues, but if for whatever reason we can't get it to work, we'll probably add an option to disable it like you suggested. We're going to continue tracking this in #12737, but in the meantime, can you confirm how many branches this repo has?

@chriszuko thank you for your patience, the next release will have a fix for the performance issues. Not only that, the improvements work without disabling the git features so you'll be able to take advantage of them if you wish.

I'm excited! Thanks for the updates! Also I have no idea how many branches the unreal repo has. It's a lot I imagine though. The repo is ginormous.
