Bug: The App is very slow when opening the folders

Description

Every single folder that I'm opening, turns that is terribly slow, especially the OneDrive folders. The point is, it's slower than Windows Explorer. It should be quicker, right?

Steps To Reproduce

1. Open Files App

2. Open a folder that has a lot of files, check the time

3. Open Files App

4. Open a OneDrive folder, check the time.

I'm having the same problem but happens only when I open the "Home" page, that shows disks and stuff ): The app freezes for almost a minute before responding
Strangely enough, this doesn't happens at all on other common folders

Yep, was here to say the same thing, while opening even any folder or even just launching the app, it feels too slow even though it's enabled in the startup app and run in BG. Sometime even while opening a folder, coming a step back and opening the same folder again feels too slow...

Thanks for feedback, Files will have better performance with every update. The file browsing slowdowns mostly are coming from Microsoft WinUI/WinAppSDK, others require big code base improvements that will take time. You can see progress in the linked issue
You can try something that might improve it right now

• Turn off Files settings > Files & folders > Calculate folder sizes to reduce CPU usage
• Close Files from the system tray or turn off Files settings > Advanced > Leave app running in the background when the window is closed then close and open Files.

Is the file list loading slowly, or just the thumbnails?

I'd rather say both, sometime when I open a folder then it just shows this folder is empty and I have to wait for a second or more, then after that the a blank square displays whether it's a folder or a file, then the thumbnail is loaded completely.

Thanks for the information. Loading thumbnails uses a lot of resources and can slow down other operations that should really be quick. We're working on ways to improve this and will share updates in the issue linked by @Josh65-2201.
