Snap your snips together, pull the board into place with Magnetise, and export the result as one JPG or PNG.

New controls

  • Snap edges: nearby image edges join or align while you move snips. Alignment guides show the join. Hold Shift to move freely, or turn snapping off; the setting is remembered.
  • Magnetise: bring all non-archived board snips into a compact arrangement, preserving their sizes and individual editability. Ctrl+Z restores the old layout in one step; Ctrl+Y reapplies it.
  • Export image: save the whole active board as JPG (quality 95) or PNG, tightly cropped to the images. Buttons, outlines, guides, the dotted canvas and archives are left out. Zoom and scrolling do not affect the output.

Archive selected is now in the toolbar so the images can meet directly without an action row between them. Tiny images use toolbar Delete, keeping their image area available to move and resize.

Start using it

Close the old Game Scrapbook window, extract the complete ZIP and run GameScrapbook.exe. Check v0.1.8 in the header. The runtime is included, and existing boards, archives and settings carry over.

Choose your capture shortcut in Settings; Ctrl+Alt+S is the default. Select a screen region, then drag the cut-out onto the board. Arrange it manually or click Magnetise, then Export image.

Export includes all board snips, even those outside the scrolled view, while preserving intentional gaps and visible overlap order. It uses your background colour and the displayed snip sizes. Choose a location outside the saved-board folder; the app protects original images and metadata from export overwrites.

Verification

Passed 22 core checks, 29 snapping/packing checks, 22 capture-lifecycle checks, 21 image-export checks and 14 compiled-interface integration cases. Checks include real JPG/PNG encoding, clean image joins, undo/redo, archive behavior, save-failure rollback and export data protection. Verification report and image examples.

The owner confirmed the capture/focus workflow in Nivalis Nights with v0.1.7. The new layout/export features were verified with automated and offscreen Windows checks; physical dragging, the native save dialog and a live v0.1.8 game session remain manual checks.

Unsigned Windows x64 application. Export limits are 32 million output pixels, 32,767 pixels per edge and 64 million unique source-image pixels. Other-game, fullscreen/HDR and background-input limitations remain documented in the README.

The MIT source and runtime notices are included. SHA256SUMS.txt covers both downloadable ZIPs. No CI workflow or job was added.

Game Scrapbook is a free, open-source Windows utility for keeping game information on your second monitor. Snip recipes, quests, maps and other details, arrange them on a persistent board, and return to playing.

Public Windows x64 release · MIT license · Tested successfully in Nivalis Nights

Get started

  1. Close any older running copy, extract the complete Windows ZIP, and run GameScrapbook.exe. The runtime is included; no separate installation or account is needed.
  2. Put the board on your second monitor.
  3. With the pointer over your game screen, press Ctrl+Alt+S and drag a rectangle around the information you want.
  4. Release, then grab the selected cut-out and drag it onto the board. Release to save it and return to your game.

The Snip button provides a three-second countdown if you prefer to start without the shortcut. Existing boards, archives and settings carry over.

What you can do

  • Arrange, move and proportionally resize snips, and zoom the board.
  • Archive information for later and restore it to its saved position.
  • Delete individual snips with the centered X; use Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y to undo and redo.
  • Choose colours, change the capture shortcut, and keep the board on top.
  • Keep captures and layout saved locally between sessions.

Confirmed game test

The project owner tested v0.1.7 successfully in a live Nivalis Nights session and confirmed that it works, including the camera/aim fix. The snipping overlay temporarily takes focus, and the pointer returns before game focus is restored.

The release also passed 21 core checks, 22 capture-lifecycle checks and 20 hidden native-window style assertions. Read the verification and live-test record.

Compatibility

This is an unsigned Windows x64 application. Other games and display modes may behave differently; windowed/borderless SDR is the intended target. Some games pause while unfocused or read background input. Exclusive fullscreen, HDR and protected capture surfaces are not universally supported.

The source and MIT/runtime licenses are included. SHA256SUMS.txt covers both ZIP downloads. Report issues or suggest improvements.

Game Scrapbook v0.1.6 — Windows x64 preview

Choose a tag to compare

@finalidiot finalidiot released this 30 Oct 12:11

Game Scrapbook keeps recipes, quests, maps and other game information on a persistent second-screen board. Capture an area, drag the cut-out onto the board, and get back to playing.

What's new in v0.1.6

  • The X in each snip's delete button is visually centered using symmetric vector geometry.
  • Immediate deletion, Ctrl+Z/Ctrl+Y, archive/restore, dragging, resizing and the saved-board format keep their existing behavior.
  • First public open-source release, with an MIT license, first-run guide, capabilities, keyboard shortcuts, build instructions and limitations.

Download and run

Download Game-Scrapbook-v0.1.6-Windows-x64.zip, close any older copy, extract the whole ZIP and run GameScrapbook.exe. The runtime is included. Existing boards and settings use the same %LOCALAPPDATA%\GameScrapbook folder.

Put the app on your second monitor. With the pointer over your game screen, press Ctrl+Alt+S. Drag once to select an area, release, then drag the cut-out onto the scrapbook. The Snip button provides a three-second countdown as an alternative.

Verification and limits

  • One Windows x64 self-contained publish; all 21 core regression checks passed.
  • Focused offscreen Windows WPF rendering checks are recorded in the repository's v0.1.6 verification report.
  • Source reviewed and scanned before publication; no credentials, private board data or captured screenshots included.
  • No GitHub Actions workflow was added or run.

Unsigned Windows x64 preview. Windowed/borderless SDR games are the intended target; exclusive fullscreen, HDR, protected surfaces and games that lock the pointer are not guaranteed. Live game/monitor/focus behavior still requires the documented manual playtest. Deleted cards retain their PNG files for undo/recovery; unused images are not automatically purged.

See the README for all features, controls, storage and build instructions. SHA256SUMS.txt covers the downloadable ZIP files.
