Finamp Beta Update 1.0.0 (0.9.26)

Hi everyone!
You read that correctly, it says 1.0.0 in the title of this release!
However, this isn't the stable release yet, it's one final beta release before the stable release to make sure we didn't introduce any nasty bugs in this update!
If we don't receive any complaints within a few days, we will promote this version to the stable channel without further changes, but there will of course be a separate GitHub release and announcement for that, so stay tuned!
Thank you for helping us beta-test this for almost three years, we're super excited to close this chapter and open the next one!

How to join the Beta (click to expand)

The beta is free and open to everyone, but we'd like to get as much feedback as possible. So please do try it out and then let us know what you think!

1. Join the Finamp Beta Testers Discord server
   • This step is optional, but since we're looking for feedback, it would be great if you could join!
   • Alternatively, there's a discussion for the beta right here on GitHub: Redesign Beta discussion
2. Take note of your current Finamp settings, since this is a beta it could happen that the update changes some of them.
   • Downloads should be migrated, but since the new download system is completely different, there might be inconsistencies.
3. On Android, join the beta on Google Play or download the APK file from below.
   On iOS, join the beta on TestFlight.
   • We're currently not able to offer a beta on F-Droid (more info here), but you can use an app like Obtainium to automatically download the latest APK from GitHub.
4. Open Finamp and enjoy!

Note

Throughout the release notes you will find links marked with the 🔗 icon; these links will open Finamp to the relevant screen, so that you can play around with any new settings right-away!

Keep in mind that not all of the text in the app has been translated to all languages yet. If you're missing a translation, you can now contribute it on Weblate!

Breaking Changes

We had to increase the minimum supported iOS version to 15 now.
This doesn't make any device unsupported, since all devices that supported iOS 14 can also be upgraded to iOS 15.

What's New

Quick Settings (thanks @Komodo5197!)

The first time you open Finamp after this update, you'll be greeted with a banner on top of the home tab, prompting you to "check out some commonly changed settings".
Tapping that banner will take you to the new Quick Settings screen, which you can also access via settings.

The purpose of that screen is to give new users easy access to the most important and impactful settings within Finamp, without having to dig through the entire settings and settings sub pages.
If you've been using the Finamp beta for a while, chances are you'll be familiar with all of these, but it doesn't hurt to take another look!

Clicking the x button on the banner will hide it forever.

Choose Between List and Grid Mode for each Tab (thanks @Komodo5197!)

We've seen this request a lot, so now you can select on which tabs you want Finamp to show items in a grid.
The 🔗 "Music Screen Display Type" setting (formerly "View Type") now has two new modes, "Albums only in grid" and "Choose per tab". "Choose per tab" allows you to do exactly that, deciding between list and grid view for each tab.
There's also a preset for showing only the album tab in grid mode, but the "Choose per tab" mode allows any combination.

mTLS Improvements (thanks @Maxr1998 and @cbueth!)

In the previous release we introduced initial support for connecting to mTLS-secured servers, and in this release we're making this feature more robust, to support more advanced setups (like reverse proxies).
Finamp is now better at detecting when a client certificate is needed, but you can also configure a certificate manually, should Finamp not detect it.
For that, just click the new "Advanced" button during login, which opens a menu that includes settings and tools that could be useful during login.
We also included some small design tweaks.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed slow load times on Jellyfin 12 when browsing tracks and playlists (thanks @obiwantoby!)
• Fixed filters like "favorites only" applying to tracks of albums and playlists instead of only to the tab items
• Fixed double-scrobbling of plays (e.g. on last.fm) on iOS (thanks @APIUM!)
• Android Auto now correctly shows the current shuffle mode (thanks @Chachigo!)
• Fixed some inconsistencies between the iOS app and CarPlay (thanks @APIUM!)
• Fixed crashes desktop & flatpak (this was already backported to 0.9.25, thanks @Komodo5197!)
• Fixed adding long queues or playlists to another playlist
• Reduced repetition when using the "Random Item" and "Random Favorite Item" quick actions multiple times

Other Changes

• Replaced the "Logs" button on the login screen with an "Advanced" button that offers some more options, including viewing logs (thanks @Maxr1998)
• Logs now only show the most important info by default to improve performance (thanks @obiwantoby!)
  • When submitting bug reports, please enable "Verbose Logging" on the 🔗 Logs Screen first!
• Show full path of custom download locations instead of truncating it (thanks @dompetriella!)
• If some tracks in an album have a disc assigned and some don't, Finamp will now show "Disc Unknown" for the affected tracks
  • This makes strange track orders on the album screen easier to understand
  • It should also fix playback of albums appearing to start in the middle of the album
• Renamed "Retore Now Playing" to "Past Queues" (thanks @erikbucik!)
• An album's release date is now shown inside its chip, along with the name (if enabled)

New Settings

• Quick Settings
  • 🔗 Settings > "Quick Settings"
• Control logs verbosity
  • 🔗 Logs > "Verbose Logging"
  • Default is disabled (changed from enabled)

Changed Settings

• "View Type" has been renamed to "Music Screen Display Type"
  • Default is now "Albums only in grid" (changed)
  • If set to "Choose per tab", you can an additional button that takes you to a configuration page
  • This was done to make the setting clearer, use more sensible defaults, and reflect new capabilities of the setting
  • 🔗 Settings > "Layout & Theme" > "Music Screen Display Type"

Is jellyfin 12 good to upgrade to now?

As long as Jellyfin calls it a RC (Release Candidate), the version is not finished. But releasing these previews gives other developers (like for Finamp) an easy way to "see into the future" and work on compatibility before 90% of the normal users update their servers and break all their clients.
If you want to try it out, nothing stops you from installing an RC, but keep in mind that it might not work quite right, bugs are expected. They disclaim as much in every release note of an RC.

true, although I think Finamp devs were mostly warning/informing about compatibility and performance on Jellyfin 12 (RC)
My guess would be RC7 could be pretty stable already, but personally I don't want to be a tester this time, so I'll just wait for the stable release or even 12.1 :D

Finamp 1.0.0 looking great by the way! Honestly can't imagine going back to the last officially stable version 😅
