Looking for Flameshot alternatives

Recently flameshot decided to ditch capturing all monitors feature and replacing it with a monitor selection screen. This been discussed previously in #4572. I have no right to tell the author how to write his program, but this makes me start looking for an alternative.

Let's make this discussion a place where you can share your found alternative with the community. Since we're likely looking specifically for a Flameshot replacement, the minimum requirements are:

• Cross-platform
• Ability to screenshot multiple monitors
• Ability to draw over the captured window
• Functional similarity to Flameshot

Thanks you for your concerns, but this is Flameshot project. Perhaps you might find better answers on places like reddit or online forums. I can also suggest exploring Ksnip project which is another fantastic OpenSource application.

No, this post is not off-topic - it's directly related to Flameshot and its users. In fact, the original reason for this post is your changes to Flameshot.

In my previous discussion about the issue that prompted this post, user comments about the new functionality being inconvenient are garnering dozens of upvotes. And that's only from a small subset of users who have multiple monitors and who bothered enough to find this specific discussion describing their problem. So, the total number of users suffering from this change is significantly higher.

You guys aren't a commercial project, and you don't accept donations, so I don't really understand your insistence on closing threads dedicated to alternatives, like #3480. You lose nothing, and on the contrary, you make people's lives better (after all, isn't that the point of creating Flameshot?). Your changes to Flameshot made the user experience worse (again, I can't blame you for that - simplifying the codebase is understandable). And this thread was created to help those Flameshot users who ran into the exact same issue. Therefore, calling it off-topic is quite strange.

However, I respect your opinion as a maintainer, even though I don't share it and find it quite telling. Therefore, I won't push this any further, closed is closed.

I hope the team reconsiders its position on any of these matters. In any case, thank you - using Flameshot for the past few years has been great.

You do realize that this change was necessary because it was impossible to have screenshot working for multi-monitor users with fractional scaling, right? It is not that we are sadistic! Did you even try to read the threads on why this change happened? Go and read them.

Wayland portals are not providing the details we need to position the screenshot on the displays crrectly, and you and others who are complaining now never bothered to help us push for a change in Wayland portals! So like any reasonable person, we had to adapt and change the strategy of how Flameshot works.

In general there are two types of vocal users: 1) those who are helpful, and 2) those who just complain. We highly appreciate the former, and we try to assist the latter to the best of our abilities. But the latter means sometimes we have to go far and beyond to help, which once in a while is not feasible regarding the scope of this project.

The bottom line is that at this very moment, this is how Flameshot works. Any user at this point has only four choices:

1. Make constructive criticism and help improve Flameshot (e.g., try to find a way to make the old behavior work reliably across different platforms)
2. Use the software as-is (that's what the software license very clearly states too)
3. Use another software that fits your needs best
4. Make non-constructive criticism (i.e.,keep complaining without helping anything or anyone)

All first three of these are highly respectable. The last one has one major flaw: it is first and foremost a waste of your own time.

How donation is related to alternatives??

Just to be clear: we don't accept financial donations because of tax issues. But we still accept other types of donations, as we clearly explained on our website:

1. Donate your time and help improving documentation, translation, graphics, or code

2. Put codebounty on the issues that you think should be solved, so that another developer help this project in return of money

I hope I have explained my logic clear enough to help you understand the reasons. Regardless, I suggested you one good software as a farewell in my previous comment.
