Every quarter, Head of Product Design (HPD) meets with the CEO to run through the current quarter objectives and the 3 biggest open opportunities in the product and the solutions we're envisioning for next quarter. Then, the HPD writes a short blog with the objectives, opportunities, and an embedded YouTube video in which HPD walks through this.
- @mikermcneil: Makes a blog post with an embedded Youtube video where he screen shares and walks through Gant chart going over quarterly objectives (without saying they’re promises)
- @mikermcneil: Worth having a call for contributions
- @mikermcneil: Blog post includes:
- Video embed
- Bullet point list of objectives for the quarter
- => Noah: List of objectives are under "Product roadmap" in OKRs sheet
- Considerations for video and article:
- (doesn't mention that any of them are "customer promises" per se, because we don't want non-customers getting mad if we have to move a customer promise)
- (doesn't mention the word "quarter" -- use "in the next three months" or "in the next 90 days")
- (doesn't need github issue links necessarily)
- Structure of video / article:
- Current quarter objectives
- Ideally, start with a problem and then present a solution.
- ("here's what we're working on at Fleet in the next 90 days")
- Big opportunities for the product we won't get to in the next 90 days, but that we're building towards in the near future (next 180 days), as well as how we're thinking of solving them.
- => Noah: Setup experience for Windows & Linux (ala macOS DEP), account-based user enrollment for BYOD iPhones (the new way), patching (software/apps and OS) during scheduled maintenance, custom columns on the Hosts page (ala extension attributes), AI-generated osquery queries
- Mike: One of them should be OS updates and how even with DDM they still suck, and how we're dogfooding.
- Ends with a call for contributions and/or feedback
