GitOps fails to recognize files with a .yaml extension #36212

@mason-buettner

Description

@mason-buettner

Fleet version: 4.76.1

Web browser and operating system: Chrome 142 on macOS 26.1

💥  Actual behavior

When executing a GitOps run in GitHub, files with a .yaml extension are ignored.

🛠️ To fix

Clarify expected file type in GitOps docs

🧑‍💻  Steps to reproduce

These steps:

  • Have been confirmed to consistently lead to reproduction in multiple Fleet instances.
  • Describe the workflow that led to the error, but have not yet been reproduced in multiple Fleet instances.
  1. Follow the steps to add a team via GitOps, and add the team file as <team-name>.yaml.
  2. Execute the "Apply latest configuration to Fleet" workflow, observe that the new team was skipped.
  3. Change the file name to <team-name>.yml and repeat the previous steps to create the team.
