This is the mega PR that attempts to import all of Material into material_ui.

To create this PR I followed this process using the following command:

git filter-repo --path packages/flutter/lib/src/material --path examples/api/lib/material

TODOs

  • Export m3 from material_ui.dart.
  • Export everything from m3.dart.
  • Try installing and using the package locally.
  • Verify examples work.
  • Verify that git blame appears the same in both repos on various files.

Open questions

  • Are we sure about the directory structure?
    • What happens when a user imports material_ui.dart and there are things with the same name in both m3 and m3e?
  • Anything else that should be ported along with this? If these commits touch files that are not included in this PR, but that we later port in, the commits will likely have different SHAs.
  • Should we actually have a combined material_ui and cupertino_ui mega mega PR so that the commit SHAs align between both of them?

…rm-specific visual density behavior (#173695)

- Fix flutter/flutter#155768
- Description: The issue is not a bug but WAI, it's due to visual
density not being the same on each platform by default (see my full
explanation at

Fixes: flutter/flutter#173058

This PR assigns a semantic role of a button to dropdown options.
When using optionsBuilder, it automatically gets the button semantics.
When the user defines: optionsViewBuilder, then it will use the default
semantics. This is based on how the current code behaves

Fix [[VPAT] [A11y] Navigation Rail has unexpected semantics traversal
order](flutter/flutter#172992)
## Description

This PR fixes SegmentedButton focus traversal.

# Before

When a focused segment (with no icon) is selected or unselected, the
focus moves to another segment.

[Capture vidéo du 2025-08-11
15-28-03.webm](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/11c29194-6b96-4ea4-9245-dcbd36dc424f)

In this recording, tab key is used to set the focus on 'Month' segment,
then enter is used to select the segment. The focus move unexpectedly to
'Week' segment.

# After

When a focused segment (with no icon) is selected or unselected, the
focus stays on this same segment and the InkWell animations are
correctly painted.

## Related Issue

Fixes [SegmentedButton keyboard navigation incorrectly moves focus on
click](flutter/flutter#161922)

## Implementation choice

The root of this issue is TextButton.icon which creates a different
widget tree depending on the icon.
See flutter/flutter#173944 for more context.

The proposed solution is to maintain the same widget tree when possible.
To do TextButton.icon is not used. This PR uses on TextButton and build
a child containing both the icon (when present) and the label.
In order to keep the same rendering as before, some internal logic from
TextButton.icon is duplicated.

## Implementation choice

This PR implements two main changes:
- it expands the `_DayPeriodControl` bounds by reducing some existing
spacing. Doing so the touch area of the AM/PM buttons can grow outside
the day period container and respect the minimum interactive height.
- it changes the tree order to correctly sized the AM/PM buttons
semantics. The solution here is somewhat tricky/hacky:

Because the semantics bounds are clipped by their ancestor, the PR
changes the widget order:

Before, the order was `_DayPeriodControl` > `_DayPeriodInputPadding` >
`Material` (with shape and clip) > `Row` (or Column depending on the
orientation) > children [ `Semantics` > AM `InkWell`, `Semantics` > PM
`InkWell` ]
(Which leads to the Semantics being clipped by the Material shape).

After, the order is `_DayPeriodControl` > `_DayPeriodInputPadding` >
`Row` (or Column depending on the orientation) > children [ `Semantics`
> `Material` (with shape and clip) > AM `InkWell`, `Semantics` >
`Material` (with shape and clip) > PM `InkWell` ]

The difficulty here is that the `TimePickerThemeData.dayPeriodShape` is
meant to be the shape for the whole day period container. In order to
change the order, this PR has to set separetly the shapes of the AM and
PM buttons. To do so it adds some logic to 'split' the shape in two
parts. This is ok for the default shape but not possible for any shape,
in that case the original shape will be use for both buttons which gives
a different result than before this PR. This annoyance seems less a
problem than having the default rendering not respecting a11y touch
targets.

This is also an improvement to [DropdownMenu

introducing the FocusNode to IconButton brings uniformity to the Focus

Previously there were two cases
- If FocusNode is passed to DropdownMenu, 3 ```tab``` presses were
required to focus the Trailing IconButton
- If FocusNode is not passed then 3 ```tab``` presses were needed for
MacOS, Windows & Linux Platforms and 2 for Android, iOS & Fuchsia.

This PR allows Focusing the IconButton by single ```tab``` press

Fixes #172687 by passing a FocusNode with ```skipTraversal:true```

Follow up of flutter/flutter#174323

This pull request updates the usage of state sets in theme and widget
property resolution logic throughout the codebase, replacing all
instances of `MaterialState` with `WidgetState`. This change ensures
consistency with the newer `WidgetState` API and prepares the code for
future enhancements or compatibility. The update affects component
themes, button styles, property generators, and related tests.

This PR retries the previously reverted PR #169293.

> [!NOTE]
> This feature was originally intended to be Impeller-only, and it was
agreed that no additional engine changes were necessary. However, during
testing on the Metal backend, a shader loading issue occurred. In my
view, this seems to be a simple problem caused by the shader not being
included in the engine’s runtime_stages.

Follow up of flutter/flutter#174421

Migrate some files from `MaterialState` to `WidgetState`. This PR only
focus on `WidgetState` for a subset of files.
- This minimizes conflicts and reduces the size of the PR for easier
reviews and follow up
- I'll work on the other elements of
`packages/flutter/lib/src/material/material_state.dart` into other PRs

## Description

This PR fixes DropdownMenu menu panel being shorter than the TextField
when it expands to full-screen width.

## Before

The menu panel is shorter than the text field:

<img width="297" height="130" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/db42bd01-94d8-47fb-9331-ebd78111b931"
/>

## After

The menu panel expands as close as possible to the edge similarly to the
text field.

<img width="297" height="130" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/b7d8f2aa-a668-439a-8195-9b9ce48dba6b"
/>

## Code sample

<details><summary>Code sample for recordings</summary>

```dart
import 'package:flutter/material.dart';
void main() {
  runApp(const DropdownMenuExample());
}
class DropdownMenuExample extends StatefulWidget {
  const DropdownMenuExample({super.key});
  @OverRide
  State<DropdownMenuExample> createState() => _DropdownMenuExampleState();
}
class _DropdownMenuExampleState extends State<DropdownMenuExample> {
  @OverRide
  Widget build(BuildContext context) {
    return const MaterialApp(
      debugShowCheckedModeBanner: false,
      home: Scaffold(
        body: DropdownMenu<int>(
          expandedInsets: EdgeInsets.zero,
          dropdownMenuEntries: <DropdownMenuEntry<int>>[
            DropdownMenuEntry<int>(value: 0, label: 'Flutter'),
          ],
        ),
      ),
    );
  }
}
```
</details>

## Implementation details

MenuAnchor automatically adds a default padding, see
https://github.com/flutter/flutter/blob/2c21273bfde5da921df512034f30ff7fd042db97/packages/flutter/lib/src/material/menu_anchor.dart#L81-L82

This PR add a property to menu anchor to expose the view padding.
DropdownMenu sets this padding to EdgeInsets.zero to opt-out from the
default 8 padding.

This PR makes animated positioned menus (usually context menus that
treat the whole screen as a menu anchor) begin opening at the user's
pointer rather than the top or bottom of the menu anchor.

## Description
This PR adds the `mainAxisAlignment` property to `NavigationRail`.

**Why:** `NavigationRail` is often used on larger screens where clumping
destinations at the top, center, or bottom (`groupAlignment`) leaves
awkward empty space. This property allows developers to evenly
distribute destinations across the available vertical space using
`MainAxisAlignment` (e.g., `spaceEvenly`, `spaceBetween`).

The `Column` dynamically switches to `MainAxisSize.max` only when
`mainAxisAlignment` is provided, ensuring 100% backward compatibility
with the existing `groupAlignment` logic. I also updated the
`NavigationRail` interactive example to include a toggle for this new
property.

## Description
Added an assertion in `_DropdownButtonState.build` to validate that the
list returned by `selectedItemBuilder` has the same length as the
`items` list.

Previously, a length mismatch caused a cryptic `child != null` or `i ==
index` assertion failure from the underlying `IndexedStack` during the
paint phase. This update catches the error during the build phase and
provides developers with a clear, actionable error message.

This PR refactors this slider test so that
* The test is split into multiple tests in a single group for better
readability.
* A single `expectValueIndicator` tests both the dragged state and the
released state, for better readability.
* The widget state is reset at the end of `expectValueIndicator` to
avoid state leak...
* ... which revealed a test case that has been written incorrectly.
* `ShowValueIndicator.alwaysVisible`'s doc is corrected to reflect its
actual behavior.

This PR is split from, and is a prerequisite of,
flutter/flutter#182991.

…downButton (#183475)

Fixes #183432

## Description

`_isMenuExpanded` is updated without calling `setState()` in both
`PopupMenuButton` and `DropdownButton`, so the `Semantics(expanded:
_isMenuExpanded)` widget doesn't rebuild.

**`PopupMenuButton`**: The `expanded` state never updates at all since
there is no `setState()` call anywhere in `PopupMenuButtonState`.

**`DropdownButton`**: Currently masked by `_handleFocusChanged`, which
happens to call `setState()` whenever focus changes on open/close, but
should not rely on this side effect.

### Changes

- Wrapped `_isMenuExpanded` assignments with `setState()` in both
widgets.
- For `DropdownButton`, moved `_isMenuExpanded = false` from
`_removeDropdownRoute()` to the `.then()` callback with a `mounted`
guard. This avoids unnecessary `setState()` calls when
`_removeDropdownRoute()` is invoked during `dispose()` or orientation
changes in `build()`, where the menu state isn't actually changing from
user interaction.

## Tests

Added regression tests for both `PopupMenuButton` and `DropdownButton`
to verify the `expanded` semantics state updates correctly when the menu
opens and closes.

…documentation examples (#183074)

This PR replaces usages of `BorderRadius.circular(double radius)` with
`const BorderRadius.all(Radius.circular(radius))` (and similarly for
`BorderRadiusDirectional` and `BorderRadiusGeometry`) to improve code
consistency and enable const constructors where applicable.

Additionally, all code examples in the documentation have been updated
to reflect this pattern, ensuring that developers see the recommended
style.

This PR fixes a framework crash that occurs when `errorBuilder` is used
alongside an `InputDecoration` that contains an `errorText`.

Because `InputDecoration.copyWith` ignores `null` values, attempting to
clear the `errorText` dynamically during the build phase leaves the
decoration with both properties defined, triggering a late assertion in
`InputDecorator`.

Following the architectural guidance provided by @Hari-07 in PR #183384,
this fix enforces mutual exclusivity at the constructor level. It adds
an `assert` to both `TextFormField` and `DropdownButtonFormField` to
ensure developers fail fast if both properties are provided.

Fixes #183378

I added the following tests to verify the assertions:
- `TextFormField` asserts when both `errorBuilder` and
`decoration.errorText` are provided.
- `DropdownButtonFormField` asserts when both `errorBuilder` and
`decoration.errorText` are provided.

## Description

This change adds a `scrollPadding` property to `DropdownMenu`,
forwarding it to the internal `TextField` widget.

`DropdownMenu` wraps a `TextField` internally but did not expose the
`scrollPadding` parameter. Both `TextField` and `SearchBar` already
provide this property, so `DropdownMenu` should forward it for
consistency. The `scrollPadding` property controls the padding around
the text field when it scrolls into view (e.g., when the keyboard
appears), allowing developers to ensure the field remains visible with
appropriate spacing.

The default value is `EdgeInsets.all(20.0)`, matching `TextField`'s
default to preserve existing behavior.

This PR implements the analysis from [my earlier
comment](flutter/flutter#182890 (comment))
on this issue.

…#182991)

With this PR, `Slider` stops painting the value indicator when
`activationAnimation` is dismissed.

Fixes flutter/flutter#180767.

This change has no effect on default value indicator shapes, which
animates with `activationAnimation` and do not paint anything when the
animation is dismissed. However, for custom value indicator shapes that
do not animate, this allows value indicators to be properly hidden after
the animation duration.

For testing, this PR refactors an existing test case, since I consider
the new test case a superset of the previous one and improves its
capability.
* Previously the test case only verifies the status before dragging and
during dragging. Now it also verifies that after dragging.
* Previously the test case uses the default value indicator shapes. Now
it uses a custom one that does not animate.

[Data Driven Fixes]:

This PR completes an old TODO by refactoring how
`SliverLayoutDimensions` are accessed and managed within
`RenderSliverFixedExtentBoxAdaptor` and its subclasses.

Previously, several subclasses of RenderSliverFixedExtentBoxAdaptor
(such as `RenderTreeSliver` and `RenderCarousel`) were manually
maintaining their own local `layoutDimensions` fields and updating them
during `performLayout`. This PR centralizes that logic into the base
class, providing a unified and public way to access these dimensions.

* `RenderSliverFixedExtentBoxAdaptor` (base class):
* Introduced a public `layoutDimensions` getter. This getter returns the
dimensions from the most recent layout pass, or a default based on
current constraints if layout is still in progress.
* Added a `paintExtentOf` override to simplify extent calculations for
subclasses.
* This is not strictly part of the refactor. RenderSliverMultiBoxAdaptor
already defines paintExtentOf, but this provides an optimization for
RenderSliverFixedExtentBoxAdaptor by using itemExtent or
itemExtentBuilder instead of relying on child.hasSize. This is
especially useful for calculating visibility without a full layout.
* Moved the management of the internal `_currentLayoutDimensions` field
to the base class.
* `RenderTreeSliver`:
* Removed the redundant local layoutDimensions field and its manual
assignment.
* Removed the "yak shave" TODO that previously noted this refactor was
needed.
 * `RenderCarousel` & `_RenderSliverWeightedCarousel`:
* Removed redundant local layoutDimensions fields and manual assignments
in
         performLayout.

This is a reland of a old PR
flutter/flutter#115285 with some changes:
1. the node has onFocusAction
2. update tests to reflect the semantics tree changes.
3. the `semantics` and `paint()` reuse the _calcThumbCenter function. in
the formly reverted PR flutter/flutter#115285
the semantics only get the value of the thumbcenter after it's updated
in paint() , I think it's what caused the g3 test failures in g3 and
caused the revert.

The semantics tree changes was caused because the semantics node was
higher than the overlay before, and after the PR, the semantics node is
formed as a leaf node and not merged with the overlay node, the extra
overlay node won't change user experience but it will change some test
result,

fixes flutter/flutter#114225

## Description

Updates the documentation of `TabBar` to clarify the behavior of
`indicatorWeight` when a custom `indicator` is provided.

Previously, the documentation stated that `indicatorWeight` is ignored
when an `indicator` is specified. However, `indicatorWeight` is still
used internally to compute the `preferredSize` of the `TabBar`, which
can affect layout.

This change clarifies that:

* `indicatorWeight` does not affect the visual appearance of the
indicator when a custom `indicator` is provided
* but it may still influence the overall size of the `TabBar`

Expose inline prediction configuration through Flutter text fields so
apps can explicitly control iOS 17 inline predictive text behavior and
ensure the engine handles attributed marked text correctly.

This PR adds an `enableInlinePrediction` option to
`TextInputConfiguration`, `EditableText`, `TextField`, and
`CupertinoTextField`, and forwards that setting to the iOS text input
plugin.

On the engine side, the iOS text input implementation now:
- maps `enableInlinePrediction` to `UITextInlinePredictionType` on iOS
17+
- defaults inline prediction to disabled unless the framework explicitly
enables it
- handles `setAttributedMarkedText:selectedRange:` by forwarding the
plain string to the existing marked text flow so inline predictive text
updates are processed correctly

This keeps the feature opt-in, preserves existing behavior by default,
and gives apps explicit control over inline predictive text on supported
iOS versions.

…ed on descendants before parent. (#182357)

This PR corrects the order in which onClose() and onCloseRequested() is
called by a RawMenuAnchor tree.

Per @dkwingsmt:

> A close is immediate and should close children immediately before
closing itself, while a closeRequest [can be] async and should
closeRequest children.

Before, calling close() on a parent would call handleCloseRequest() on
its children, leading to children (potentially) finishing their closure
after their parents.

Additionally, if a RawMenuAnchor is already closed, it will not trigger
onCloseRequested.

**Details:**

The handleCloseRequest portion of the
_RawMenuAnchorBaseMixin.closeChildren function has been moved into a
requestChildrenClose function to be more explicit.

Additionally, this PR makes handleCloseRequest call
requestChildrenClose() after calling widget.onCloseRequested on
_RawMenuAnchorState. This makes submenus begin closing after their
parent menu begins closing. I also modified the menu_anchor.dart and
raw_menu_anchor.3.dart code to remove a closeChildren call (now
redundant).

Last, this PR makes handleCloseRequest short-circuit if a menu isn't
open. This prevents unncessary widget.onCloseRequest calls when a
submenu is opened, since all sibling menus call handleCloseRequest
before the submenu begins opening.

This is a breaking change. I had to modify one of the DismissMenuAnchor
tests since onCloseRequested is now called on all descendants when a
dismissal occurs. I think it's best to introduce this change because it
can lead to hard-to-track behavior when creating menus (that's how I
discovered it).

Migration guide: flutter/website#13145

Additional tests were added to check the opening and closing behavior.

----

Edit: Reland of flutter/flutter#174695 after
revert flutter/flutter#182010 due to breakage
when tests were randomized.

Per @jason-simmons -
> The error seen on CI can be reproduced by running:
> flutter test --test-randomize-ordering-seed=20260206
test/cupertino/menu_anchor_test.dart

Thanks to those who caught the error -- sorry I didn't notice.

From what I can deduce, two errors were present.

**Test 1: Menus do not close on root menu internal scroll (and others)**
The first error occurred due to TestPointers being created with an
existing pointer number. This was fixed by using tester.nextPointer
instead of a fixed number.

Code:
https://github.com/davidhicks980/flutter/blob/054f3b03f2ab04822760c600e4259fbd828ebd4d/packages/flutter/test/cupertino/menu_anchor_test.dart#L968

```dart
    final pointer = TestPointer(
       1, // Fixed with tester.nextPointer
       ui.PointerDeviceKind.mouse
    );
    await tester.sendEventToBinding(pointer.hover(tester.getCenter(find.text(Tag.a.text))));
    await tester.pump();
```

**Test 2: `Menu scale rebounds to full size when swipe gesture ends`**

The second error occurred due to the _SwipeRegion's GestureRecognizer
outliving its state and calling didSwipeLeave on a disposed
CupertinoMenuItem. <s>This shouldn't be a problem -- swiping is supposed
to continue so long as a user has their pointer down -- but the
CupertinoMenuItem should have checked whether it was mounted before
entering code that could schedule a rebuild (e.g. _handleActivation,
isSwiped)</s> Nevermind -- I realize now there isn't much of a reason
for letting the swipe outlive the region, so I just disposed of the
swipe when the SwipeRegion is unmounted. I still kept the mounted check.

Code:

https://github.com/davidhicks980/flutter/blob/054f3b03f2ab04822760c600e4259fbd828ebd4d/packages/flutter/test/cupertino/menu_anchor_test.dart#L1285

```dart
@OverRide
void didSwipeLeave({bool pointerUp = false}) {
    // This function could be called after disposal, but _handleActivation and isSwiped both could trigger rebuilds.
    // Fix:
    // if (!mounted) {
    //   return
    // }
    if (isEnabled && pointerUp) {
      _handleActivation();
    }
    isSwiped = false;
  }
```

I ran an additional 500 randomized menu_anchor_test.dart runs and did
not experience another exception. I believe everything should be
good-to-go, but I'll pay closer attention to cocoon.

  • Should we actually have a combined material_ui and cupertino_ui mega mega PR so that the commit SHAs align between both of them?

Yes, I would highly, highly recommend doing it that way.

To clarify, it's not just the SHAs aligning, it's whether there is one commit that actually has all the changes, or two as-far-as-git-is-concerned-completely-unrelated commits, each with part of the changes. For example, git show will not work as expected if it's not all imported at once.
