bug: Focus is lost if a window is closed even if 'hover on focus' is active

Description

Focus is lost if a window is closed when tiling is active. If tiling is not active, everything works normal. Shortcuts (<super+hjkl>) do not work if the focus is lost. Focus can only be regained if I click on a window.

Problem Explanation

If secondary click is active on gnome, the focus will shift with the mouse. Secondary click can be enabled using gnome-tweaks.
Gnome Tweaks > Windows > Secondary-Click

The bug happens if tiling is active and a window is closed. Here is a video with the mouse focus. The same thing happens if I close windows with alt+f4. Focus is lost.

Expected Behavior

It should focus on the window under the mouse. Or focus on a random window since gnome probably will update the focus instantly to the correct window.

Reprodution

Steps To Reproduce

• Enable secondary click from gnome-tweaks.
  • Install gnome-tweaks:
    • They can be installed on Ubuntu: sudo apt install gnome-tweaks
    • They can be installed on Arch: sudo pacman -S gnome-tweaks
  • Enable Secondary-Click
    • Gnome Tweaks > Windows > Secondary-Click
• Install forge extension
• Open bunch of windows no matter the app.
• Close them one by one and examine the focus.
  • I suggest Alt+f4 or clicking the 'x' button.

Enabled Extensions

Only Forge is enough. The same thing happens even if only forge is enabled.

• If an app crashes, like a segfault, focus is also lost. No need to close it.

• <super+Tab> default gnome shortcut works to regain focus. But, it is quite annoying to find the correct app to focus when multiple workspaces are in use.

• If I toggle application menu by pressing <super> twice, focus is regained to the window under the mouse. But, if secondary-click is not enabled focus is still lost and <super+hjkl> do not work.

• Ubuntu 22.04 LTS do not lose focus if a window is closed.

• I can replicate the issue in clean arch installation in QEMU+Virt Manager using archinstall and selecting gnome profile.

Temporarily I have switched to Pop Shell Extension. It has a similar tiling functionality but do not suffer from the same bug on Gnome 44.3.
