The Cloud Data Engine (CDE) is a pet project that I dreamt up whilst supporting a convoluted script-kiddy solution that was supposed to be temporary for a client... 4 years isn’t so temporary!
Anyhow the intended goal of this project is to provide a modular solution to consolidate data from disparate Cloud Services including on-premise IaaS/PaaS/SaaS services.
The solution will:
- By default, use opensource technologies
- Be flexible to allow for customisation with connectors and data feeds
- Adhere to, and use, nice open standards like REST, JSON, ANSI SQL etc
- Be free of licensing where at all possible
- Allow for possible use cases such as Billing, Capacity, and Configuration reporting
