SecureDrop Workstation 0.5.0 Release

Release ticket: https://github.com/freedomofpress/securedrop-workstation/issues/624 QA matrix: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yrppdSQ8mQS6kW9ZnZI_h9A2_haMjzAPKOSYhgAby6M/edit#gid=1369125213

  • Logging setup issue for fresh installs

  • MIME type test failures in dom0. Failures were isolated to sd-devices and sd-viewer dispvm templates.

    • Root cause: During provisioning, these VMs were powered on before their templates and were out of sync.

    • Remediation: To get tests passing, shut down TemplateVMs and restart AppVMs. For proper remediation, may want to optimize updater shutdown behavior.

-> File post-release issue to improve restart logic in updater

QA obligations today

  • Conor to do fresh install, Kev to do happy path upgrade

Release timetable and comms

  • Aiming to release tomorrow if no major issues discovered today, will check in at 4PM EST

Stale issues bot proposal

(Joan) In past issues, there have been a few issues where some work remains to be completed. Would it be useful to have a bot that reminds folks that an issue is still open after 90 days?

(Kushal) Not sure

(Conor) We do have a lot of really old issues that aren't likely to get closed anytime soon. For other repos issues are a lot more fresh. Maybe worth trying elsewhere.

(Allie) Might be nice to have it on SD for newer issues? Could issues be tagged so the bot doesn't comment on them?

(Kev) I think it's a cool idea as it would surface them -- if we have shelved things, it'll bump them for discussion.

(Joan) Do you think it should be across board

(Erik) A bit worried about noise level it would introduce with limited value

(Ro) Docs repo not a bad place to try it
