Making YT2009 potentially work on windows 95/98

Hello! i have a question about how the video playback works because i want to edit it so instead of using the standard video playback format like HTML5, it will use MPEG-1 or 2. This may not be accurate to how youtube were back in the days but i just want to see if i can get yt2009 to work on a windows 95/98 machine since the site does work, not the video playback tho.

flash is an option at /toggle_f, turns videos into flvs playable on something like flash 8

I just tried running on Win98 VM, Browser seems too old for even yt2009. In IE5, it looks like only cps2.swf could be loaded but it still couldn't play video for some reason.

Maybe it would work after upgrading browser on Windows98, but I won't do that for now.

Hmm.. Last time i did my research around a year or two ago, windows 98/95 didnt support flash player 8 or 9. I did try to install flashplayer 8 in IE5 but it didnt really work. Such a long time ago that i dont remember exactly what happened. But if i knew the specific file that converts the videos to flash, i could potentially redirect it to convert the videos to Mpeg-1 or 2 because MPG is totally playable on both 95 and 98. i also did try to install flash player 8 on another webbrowser that i cant remember the name of. I also remember chat gpt saying something with flashplayer 8 or 9 is too heavy on a machine from the 90s. including 98 and 95

Otherwise you'd have to install windows 2000. And then i did get yt2009 to fully work on my AMD k6-2 machine. The frame rate was awful. But it should be better if the imbedded player in yt2009 used Mpeg 1 or 2 instead. i think it managed to use HTML5 but im not sure. i have a horrible memory.

The screenshot you sent does seem promising. when i have enough time, il probably dig into trying to find a fix again

I installed flash, but browser keep trying to looking for shockwave player ax. Only cps2.swf wasn't for some reason. Playback issue is still another problem tho.

early flash installers had IE-specific "ax" versions. for flash on such old systems, only use the default 2009 and earlier players. make sure to turn off h264. also make sure you have ffmpeg set up correctly.

while yt2009 doesn't encode mpeg1/2 by itself, there are plenty of other alternative modes by using the basic mobile interface (/mobile) and clicking the Playback Options button at the bottom. note that RTSP needs to be set up separately, so out of the box you'll probably only find the HTTP options usable.

IE5 is still too old for yt2009. I saw most of page script won't work as intended with that. As yt2009 is aiming for 2009, lack of support for such browser actually makes sense.

I've done some researching on the web on how people watched youtube one windows 98 back in the day. Supposedly, they used firefox 2.0 or the last opera version that supported windows 98 and used flash 9. Apparently flash 10 were starting to be rolled out as well.
