Adoption Levels

The Light Calendar can be used in three independent stages.

Level 1 — Use only the Light Seasons

Keep the Gregorian Calendar fully unchanged, but add natural Light Seasons:

• Waxing Light: ca. 4 Feb – 5 May
• Light: ca. 6 May – 6 Aug
• Waning Light: ca. 7 Aug – 6 Nov
• Darkness: ca. 7 Nov – 3 Feb

These dates may vary by ±1 day depending on the exact astronomical solstice/equinox positions of the year.

Optional:

• Moon Counter (M1–M13, sometimes M0), independent of month structure.

Purpose: Gain natural orientation through daylight-based seasons without altering the Gregorian date system.

Level 2 — Light Months

Keep the Gregorian year start (Jan 1), but replace the irregular Gregorian months with:

• New February, New March, …, New January
• Balanced month lengths (29–31 days)
• Integrated Moon Counter

Purpose: A clearer, symmetrical month structure while remaining fully compatible with Gregorian yearly numbering.

Level 3 — Full Light Calendar

Adopt the complete structure:

• New month system
• Four Light Seasons
• Moon Counter
• Year begins on 1. New February (astronomical mid-point between Winter Solstice and March Equinox)

Purpose: A fully astronomical civil calendar with coherent yearly symmetry and natural rhythm.
