AI Shortcuts v2 — Windows & Linux
AI Shortcuts for Windows & Linux v2 — adds a way to discover ready-made commands. macOS has its own releases (mac-v* tags).
What's new
- Get More Commands... — a new button in Settings and in the Command Manager opens the community command gallery on the website. Copy a prompt, or tick several commands and download them as one JSON file, then bring them in with the Command Manager's import. The gallery opens in Vietnamese when the app language is Vietnamese.

| Linux (x64, X11) | AI-Shortcuts-linux-x64.tar.gz |
Windows
- Download and run
AI-Shortcuts-windows-x64.exe. - The file is not code-signed, so SmartScreen may show "Windows protected your PC". Choose More info → Run anyway, or verify the checksum below first.
Linux
tar -xzf AI-Shortcuts-linux-x64.tar.gz
./"AI Shortcuts"Requirements: an X11 session, xclip or xsel, and (recommended) a Secret Service keyring such as GNOME Keyring or KWallet. Global hotkeys do not work on Wayland.

Upgrading

AI Shortcuts v1.2 — macOS
AI Shortcuts for macOS 1.2 — select text in any app, press a hotkey, and let an AI proofread, rewrite or summarize it in place.
What's new
- Import several commands at once. Settings → Commands → Import now adds every command in a file instead of only the first one. A command you already have is never overwritten: a copy is added with "(Imported)" in its name. This is what the shared command packs on the website gallery use.
- Get More Commands. A new button in Settings → Commands opens the website gallery of ready-made commands.
- Safer restore. Import Full Configuration now asks for confirmation before it replaces all your commands (and deletes their custom API keys).
Download
AI_Shortcuts_v1.2.dmg — macOS 14 or later.
-
Open the DMG and drag AI Shortcuts to Applications.
-
The app is not notarized. If macOS says it is "damaged" or cannot be opened, run:
xattr -cr "/Applications/AI Shortcuts.app" -
Your Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions are kept when you update from 1.1. If they ever look enabled but do not work, run these commands in Terminal and grant them again when asked:
tccutil reset Accessibility com.gemkids.writing-tools tccutil reset ScreenCapture com.gemkids.writing-tools
Your commands, settings and API keys are not affected.

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.txt --ignore-missingAI Shortcuts v1.1 — macOS
AI Shortcuts for macOS 1.1 — select text in any app, press a hotkey, and let an AI proofread, rewrite or summarize it in place.
What's new
- Updates keep your permissions. The app is signed with a fixed certificate instead of a new one-off signature for every build, so macOS keeps the Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions you granted when you update to a later release.
- Fix: API keys lost after restart. Keys are now stored reliably in the local Keychain.
- Fix: false "update available" alert. A failed update check (for example an HTTP 404) is no longer read as a version number.
- Fix: custom provider API keys are no longer replaced by a placeholder after the app reloads its commands. Keys that were already overwritten must be entered again.
- Localization: settings screens and components now use localized strings (English, German, French, Spanish).

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.txt --ignore-missingAI Shortcuts v1 — Windows & Linux
AI Shortcuts for Windows & Linux — first release of this fork. Select text in any app, press a hotkey, and let an AI proofread, rewrite or summarize it in place. macOS has its own releases (v* tags).
Updated build (2026-10-09): assets were rebuilt to fix retired Gemini models (Gemma 3) and to bundle translations so the selected language is applied. Version number is unchanged; verify with the attached
SHA256SUMS.txt.
Highlights
- Command Manager — create, reorder, export/import and back up your commands (compatible with the macOS format).
- Per-command shortcuts and per-command AI override (provider, model, or a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint with its own key).
- Attachments — paste or attach images and text files in prompts and follow-up questions.
- More providers — Gemini, OpenAI-compatible, Ollama, Anthropic, Mistral, OpenRouter.

Upgrading
- Settings and commands live in
%APPDATA%\AIShortcuts(Windows) or~/.config/aishortcuts(Linux). - If you used the original Windows/Linux version, custom commands from
options.json(next to the executable) are migrated automatically on first run. - Re-enter your API keys if a provider shows as not configured.
Known limitations
- No Wayland support for global hotkeys on Linux.
- Windows binary is unsigned.
- Without an OS keyring, per-command API keys are stored in a lightly obfuscated (not encrypted) file.
