Naming: should we rename gen-code? (brainstorm + shortlist)

TL;DR

gen-code is descriptive but generic — and the CLI command is already gen. Should we adopt a shorter, more memorable, more brandable name? Open brainstorm; nothing is decided. Comment with reactions, votes, or your own suggestions.

What makes a good name

Short, easy to type as a command, has a symbol/logo, and carries a story insiders smile at.

The core idea

• An agent is a loop (reason → act → observe → repeat) — a circle.
• Ours is self-evolving — it climbs rather than returning to the same spot. So it's a spiral, not a circle.
• And it's open & pluggable — swap LLMs, search backends, personas, skills & extensions at will. A composable core, not a closed box.

The ideal name evokes this character: a self-evolving loop on an open, composable foundation.

Constraints

• CLI command should stay short (today gen is ideal; ≤4 chars preferred).
• GitHub org/repo + domain availability.
• Trademark conflicts.

Shortlist (by theme)

Greek / math

• Tau (τ) — τ = 2π, one full turn around the circle. An agent "turn" = one loop = τ.
• Rho (ρ) — in polar coordinates (ρ, θ) describe a circle.
• Delta (Δ) — change / difference; a self-evolving agent keeps producing Δ.

Science / operators

• Nabla (∇) — the gradient operator; self-improvement is gradient ascent. Clean glyph.
• Flux — continuous flow & change.
• Pulsar — a spinning star emitting regular pulses (rotation = loop).

Eastern

• Tao / Dao (道) — "the way / the cycle"; ends in a circle (O); ☯ is a circle.
• Yi (易) — Book of Changes: cycles and evolution, in two letters.

Circle as a symbol

• Enso (円) — the Zen one-stroke circle; imperfect by design to signify growth.
• Ouro(boros) — the snake eating its tail: a self-renewing loop.

Arabic

• Sifr (صفر) — "zero," ancestor of zero and cipher; 0 is a circle. (algorithm ← al-Khwarizmi, algebra ← al-jabr.)

CS heritage

• Quine — a program that outputs its own source: the purest metaphor for a self-evolving agent.
• Daemon / Daimon — a background "agent" process, and the Greek "guiding spirit."

Short & friendly — a loop as a nickname

• Lap — one lap = one full circuit; each agent turn is a lap.
• Eddy — a small whirlpool (circular flow) that also reads like a name.
• Coda — the musical close that brings a piece full circle; soft and name-like.
• Quine — a program that outputs its own source: the purest metaphor for a self-evolving agent.
• Iter — every agent run is just one more iteration
• hone (v.) — to sharpen by repetition. The agent runs, reflects, and hones itself a little finer each pass. Not a loop that returns to the same place — a loop that gets sharper.

san (三) — proposing it as both the name and the CLI command.

1. 三生万物 — the generative core. Dao De Jing (ch. 42): 道生一，一生二，二生三，三生万物 — "The Dao begets One, One begets Two, Two begets Three, and Three begets the ten-thousand things." Like a runtime: from one small, dependency-free core, everything grows.

2. Becomes anything — one agent runtime that turns into any role and does any task.

3. The agent's three stages — Reasoning → Acting → Observing.

Logo: wordmark < SAN ✦ /> (command stays san) + icon ☰ — three trigram lines (I Ching) = 三 and the three stages above. The spark ✦ and < /> frame stay.
