How do I make changes to the feature files?

Dear all,

I first asked this question under "Issues" but I think it is more appropriate here.

I have downloaded the code for the font and I have started to play around a little bit with it in order to become familiar with the syntax and to become able to make changes therein for my own purpose. However, it seems that I am not able to change a single thing in the features. Whenever I make a change to a feature file and recompile, it looks as if nothing would have happened and I am wondering why. An example: I find the special German versions of Ä, Ö and Ü with the wide dieresis extremely ugly and I just deleted the substitution of Adieresis to Adieresis.DEU, Odieresis to Odieresis.DEU and Udieresis to Udieresis.DEU in the locals.fea-File in the Regular-Folder, recompiled the code and loaded EBGaramond12-Regular.otf in a lualatex-Textexample. But I am still left with the special German glyphs which I wanted to delete. What am I doing wrong?
