What do you want to change?

I want to solve (maybe not fix completely) problem caused by #5685 by providing config value to disable problematic behavior.

Why do you want to make this change?

It makes quick-terminal feature terrible to use. And 7 thumbs-up seems to agree ;-)

I'll vouch for you try to fix it, but I don't think adding a config value is the right way. Since this is most definitely a swift implementation issue/limitation.
