Quick terminal on Linux

Does anyone got quick terminal to work on Linux ? Using hyprland.

I wasn't able to make quick terminal to work on fedora 42.

I get this error in the log:
fedora ghostty[1168550]: warning(gtk_ghostty_global_shortcuts): request ended unexpectedly

I installed the latest version of ghostty using Fedora COPR

I setup this line on my ghostty config:
keybind = global:super+e=toggle_quick_terminal

Looking for advice to make quick terminal works on fedora 42.

Same. I'm wondering whether ghostty global keybinding feature is macos only.

Grok told me that GNOME Shell does not implement wl-layer-shell-1 API and does not support quick terminal.

Use KDE Plasma, Sway or Hyprland.

Can anyone confirm ?

But since you can't seem to find that I will link you how to figure out which compositors support wlr-layer-shell-unstable-v1
(the one you named does not exist)

More specifically you can see the compositor support here and mutter the compositor for GNOME does not support it

The following line works for me if I call it from inside Ghostty. However, it doesn't work globally since nothing happens when I press it outside Ghostty.

keybind = global:super+enter=toggle_quick_terminal

I'm on Hyprland (NixOS), and I'm guessing that I need to add some Hyprland config since if I remember correctly Wayland doesn't allow programs to register global keybindings (please correct me if I'm wrong)?

I can't find any Ghostty CLI flag that toggles the quick terminal that I can bind to a Hyprland keybinding though. @00-kat how did you get this to work globally on Hyprland?

Please do not revive old threads.

On Hyprland you need to install xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland and manually bind global shortcuts in your config: https://wiki.hypr.land/Configuring/Binds/#dbus-global-shortcuts

it is for a hyprland keybind which is outside of the app scope itself.

#8918 (comment) has the keybind to use. #8918 (reply in thread) has the docs for how to make it work globally. Please read what you're replying to before sending completely random guesses as to how you do it.

For me it was working with Fedora KDE Plasma (latest version, default setup) this way:

Adding this to he config:

keybind = global:super+shift+enter=toggle_quick_terminal

Press Ctrl+shift+p and reload the config.

A prompt is asking me if i like to add this keybinding.

After i have confirmed it, i can open the quick terminal.
