handling upstream abandoned highlighters

Though I would much rather use tree-sitter for highlighting tree-sitter-query (maybe there's a way to petition expanding the internal tree-sitter grammars to support the DSL that is already used in highlighting said internal grammars), the TextMate grammar currently used for TSQ has rather barren highlighting.

I've handled that upstream but the repo is effectively unmaintained at the moment, is there a protocol for handling TextMate grammar forks?
