You start with "please" because it feels polite,
then "as an expert" to set the right mood,
you add "step by step" and "be concise" and "be bright,"
and pray to the weights that the output is good.
You tweak a stray comma, a verb, and a tone,
swap "generate" out for "craft" or "compose,"
each token a brushstroke, each phrase a stepping stone —
the prompt is the poem, everyone knows.
The haiku is dead; long live the system prompt,
where "JSON only" is iambic grace,
and "do not hallucinate" keeps you undaunted —
a sonnet of guardrails in infinite space.
So here's to the engineers chasing the muse
through context windows and few-shot arrays,
who found that the art was hidden in the clues —
that language is magic, relearned every day. 🪄
Inspired by the realization that crafting the perfect prompt feels less like programming and more like writing a very nervous letter to a very powerful poet.
