click counter in example file block doesn't count; metadata local storage doesn't appear to be wired up

what I tried:

• instantiate the template and yarn / yarn dev
• click the click counter button on the example file block

what I expected:

• click counter goes up

what happened:

• click counter remains at 0
• saw Triggered a request to update the file contents messages in console log

Here's what I found that seems relevant:

• the click handler in the example file block tries to update the metadata by calling its onUpdateMetadata prop
• there's an onUpdateMetadata function in App.tsx that writes the metadata to local storage
  • this is passed as a prop to AppInner
  • AppInner passes it (in rest) to FileBlock
  • FileBlock drops it 😞
• there's also an event listener in App.tsx that calls onUpdateMetadata for "message" messages of type 'update-metadata'
  • I don't see any code that sends these messages
  • e908919 replaces a postMessage call in onUpdateMetadata with the Triggered a request... console log I saw above

I think maybe e908919 is the problem and the passed-down prop is a red herring.
