Infinite loop of creating stashes

I spotted the same issue as here
#3133
trying to stash file that I have no permissions to access.

I've just encountered this bug while I distracted after executing a stash and now have to go through about 50 stashes in my pile, hoping I don't lose any bit of my work that I was stashing for a pull.

Is anything being done about this! This is the 10th time in a month where I'm ending up with having to delete off 20 copies of my stashes!
