Read-only file system

I am trying to run the aws configure add-model command, but I consistently get this error:
[Errno 30] Read-only file system: '/home/sbx_user1065'

on the doc re: .aws directory, i thought that it would use /tmp/.aws for all things related to the aws cli, but this sounds like it's still using the home directory for something at least?

Hmmm yeah could be. I'll do more testing to see if the AWS directory isn't being set properly. Until then, i think you can just set AWS_CONFIG_FILE in your file to /tmp so it knows to use that. So:

export AWS_CONFIG_FILE="/tmp/.aws/config"

Let me know if that work-around is good, and I'll try to check on the AWS directory being set.

ok... took me a while, but i figured out most of the stuff I needed.

• I needed to create both the /tmp/.aws and /tmp/.aws/config directories
• I also need to EXPORT HOME=/tmp

from there, I was able to add additional configuration stuff to the aws cli (I'm working with some preview services that don't have boto3 functionality yet, only cli)

Ok, great. Glad you got it working. Strange you need to create that directory and set the variable. I do that in the bootstrap file: https://github.com/gkrizek/bash-lambda-layer/blob/master/bootstrap#L7-L8

I'll try to do some tests tomorrow of creating the config file as well in the bootstrap file. I have some other changes as well so a new layer version should be out soon. Thanks!

I just published a new layer version that will hopefully help with this. Running aws configure add-model worked in my testing

arn:aws:lambda:<region>:744348701589:layer:bash:5

In the bootstrap file I now create a /tmp/.aws/config file and export AWS_CONFIG_FILE=/tmp/.aws/config. Hopefully this works for you. I ran echo $HOME in my lambda code and it returned /tmp, so it appears fixed to me.

If it doesn't work, setting these variable yourself in your script would be the best work-around.

aws s3 ls s3://MY_BUCKET
