VertexAiSessionService in Cloud Run deployed agent

We’ve deployed our Google ADK agent on Cloud Run following the documentation:
gcloud CLI for Python

Now, we’d like to enable session memory and decided to try using VertexAiSessionService.
VertexAiSessionService
However, after three days of attempting to set it up as service memory, I haven’t been able to get it working.

Can anyone confirm whether this is actually possible? Or do we need to take a different approach?

I am using the Cloud Run option from documentation:

My deploy command looks like this:

 gcloud run deploy $env:AGENT_SERVICE_NAME `

If I understand correctly, with this approach, nothing is going through Vertex AI, as everything is deployed via Cloud Run.
I have created an instance agent (just an empty agent) in Vertex AI (REASONING_ENGINE_ID), but I don't know if that is the right approach.

Yes, you need to connect your ADK runner to the VertexAiSessionService using --session_service_uri=agentengine://<agent_engine_resource_id_or_resource_name>, otherwise by default you are using the InMemorySessionService. see: https://github.com/google/adk-python/blob/main/src/google/adk/cli/fast_api.py#L138-L160
