Documenthandler 2.0 / adding images

Need some clarification on adding images to a document. In short, the interface does not behave like the manual describes. No image is shown in the preview, in the document or in the client.
I have tried adding the whole path, as well as different image formats. Png and Jpg should be supported.
An image link is written in the document json file, but not rendered in the output. Logs show no errors.
This is HAJK 4.1 release running on Ubuntu.

Responding myself after some debugging and config work.
Note on image URLs in the document viewer

Just a small observation in case it helps others:
images that are visible in the admin GUI may still fail to load in the client if relative paths are used, like the admin GUI suggests. (../Upload)

In my setup, relative image URLs were resolved as /api/v2Upload/..., which resulted in Cannot GET responses.
Using absolute URLs (or absolute paths like /Upload/...) worked as expected.

This may be configuration-related, but sharing here in case the behavior is useful to document or clarify.
Also, this may be taken care of in release 4.2.
