Commentail documentation

Self-hosted comments for Wagtail CMS. Add moderated discussions to Wagtail Pages and registered Django models using your site's accounts, templates and styles.

0.1.0 compatibility: Wagtail >=7.4.3,<7.5 · Django 5.2 · Python 3.12–3.14. Wagtail 8.0 is outside this release. PyPI publication is pending.

Start here

Install the package in your Wagtail project's virtual environment, add commentail and wagtail.contrib.settings, register Commentail URLs before Wagtail's catch-all, run migrations and add {% commentail page %} in the article template. Configure SMTP and schedule python manage.py process_commentail once per minute before accepting guest submissions.

The default moderation policy is Review all. Existing site accounts can comment; guests verify their email before moderation. The interface uses plain text, server-rendered HTML and optional progressive JavaScript. English and Russian UI are included.
